Jeep Wrangler YJ door question

We have an 89 YJ. We just bought soft door bottoms from a guy with a 93. Supposedly, the two years are compatible.
So, what am I missing here?

hard door latch

Latch pin on frame

Soft door latch

Is there a conversion kit we need so that we can use the soft doors? If so, what the heck is it called?

Is there some way to use the current latch pin and the soft door latch that I’m just not seeing?

Why does every damn Jeep purchase have to be filled with annoyances like these?*

*I am, of course, referring to the soft top which fits but not with the hard doors, the mirror movers which supposedly work with factory install mirrors but really don’t, the heating controls which have 1,2,3, or 4 cables - depending on who you talk to, and on and on…

Part of the frame on our original soft top just broke. I can’t put on the new soft top because it doesn’t work with the hard doors. I can’t take the hard doors off because the law in MA requires at least a driver side mirror. I can’t put the mirror movers on until I can find mirrors that fit the damn things. I can’t put the soft doors on, even if I find the stupid mirrors I need because the GOD DAMN LATCHES ARE DIFFERENT!!! GAH!!!

Reported for forum change.

89 and 93 should be compatible, there were no body changes in those years.

What’s wrong with the soft doors? It looks like it may not use the latch at all. It looks like when you close the door and slide the lever, it just sticks out enough to get caught inside the door frame and prevent the door from opening.

If you need a temporary fix, you can take the doors off and stick a Harley mirror in the hinge like this.
