Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic re Christopher Hitchens: STFU

To be fair on this point, if you think Christopher Hitchens is bad you should check out the work of brother Peter. He writes for a UK newspaper called the Daily Mail (a.k.a. The Daily Heil a.k.a. The Daily Wail a.k.a. The Daily Fail a.k.a. The Daily Fascist a.k.a. The Daily ) and never fails to come across as a conceited, snippy grade A prick. Based on what I’ve read of the two of them over the years, it’s easy to believe both brothers ought to shoulder their fair share of the blame for the feud.

And I agree with everyone else that you can’t condemn a guy on the basis of one unpleasant anecdote. A lot of people have written good things about him over the years.

I knew who he was and he should have stayed out. He detracted from the discussion.

Regardless of the specifics of what happened between Hitchens and Ravenman’s friend, I don’t think anybody’s going to deny that Hitchens has a very healthy self-regard. And what writer enjoys slaving over a story for a long time and then having it edited? But then again nobody’s talking about how he deserves commendations for his contributions to the field of niceness.

I don’t know, but if you take a long look in the mirror perhaps it will come to you.
