Interesting concept. Probably a fucking riot in the back-stage of comedy clubs. When you are blasted drunk and most likely high as a kite.
Didn’t translate that well to TV. Pretty damn un-funny. And those stupid idiots who ran around on stage all the time. Pointless and utter crap. Only funny jokes were from Jesilnek, the judge. (Dude cracks me up. Wish he still had a show)
And the ELEVEN commercials in a row? Fuck me! I’m really glad I DVR’d that shit.
I watched the three knock-out rounds, and there were some seriously funny quips, but damn if I can remember any of them. I remember lots of pussy jokes though.
I thought the guest judges were pretty good. Jesilnek had some good stuff with Whoopi Goldberg - “I have something she doesn’t have - shampoo!” I liked the hugs at the end of each round too.
But what the hell with the three weird guys (The Wave) - are they a comedy team? They had some clever gags but they really broke the stride of the comedians. Plus they were pretty weird. I wish they weren’t there, or that the comedians were allowed to treat them as the annoying hecklers they looked like.
I missed the finale with Sarah Silverman; I didn’t see that it was on until there were only 10 minutes left, and by then they had switched to a Justin Bieber roast. I see there are NO repeats of this (perhaps it’s on demand), but I don’t care if I see it or not.
If it’s on next year will I watch it again? I’m not sure.
I watched it all. You had to look at it as a glimpse into what comedians think is funny, the construction of jokes, the new slant on old, overplayed topics. As an audience I thought most of the worst jokes were the stupid fat, slut, fat, smelly, fat jokes. She has a vagina! They’ve both fat! He has a beard! Got it the first time. Yet those were often the ones that the judges really liked.
The guy who lied about being in the towers at 9/11 entering a roast battle. Now that’s balls. Wow. Just wow.
I think we didn’t get to see 90% of what The Wave did and the camera gave us only pieces of skits. We could have had another joke per round if they eliminated them.
I would watch it again next year. Better than most of the Comedy Central celebrity roasts, and I like those. Rob Lowe is coming up in September, though. (I always want to write Robe Lowe.) Who cares about him?
I watched the finale and most of the repeats of the earlier shows. I liked it, good stuff most of the time. I’ll watch it again. Good format, no holds barred. I don’t think The Wave was needed, I’d rather see them doing there own thing.
I watched a small bit of it and wanted to post the challenge for the male comedians to roast a female without using the word “pussy.” Can’t be done apparently.
