I was really let down. In the last few years I have come to appreciate his and Engvald’s humor and low key styles (also Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy).
Then I tune into the program and from what I saw it was about 70 percent “New York” comics with their raw club type humor. It just didn’t work for me.
Yes, I know it was in New York but still I was surprised at the divergence from appealing to his normal audience especially in that the advertisements did not even mention the club comics being on the program.
I watched about 20 minutes before I turned it off.
I watched some, but fell asleep. I really liked the woman, but she was very raw. I’ll watch it again since I DVR’d it. I’m sure it will replay enough anyway!
There were a few bits that were good (Jeff’s comments at the end, for example), but for the most part it seemed to me that everyone was trying way too hard to be funny and not making it. The end result was that most of the ‘jokes’ sounded really mean-spirited.
TV time, I surprised someone with your name doesn’t understand that the stars close the show. The Blue Collar guys were at the end.
That said, I thought the New York crew blew them off the stage. I’m not a big fan of theirs, but their jokes were funnier and more cutting. And it’s a roast. Why bother doing a low-key roast? Anyway, it wasn’t nearly as raw or mean-spirited as the standard Friar’s Club roast. And Foxworthy has beaten his redneck schtick into the ground, so it’s good to see him called on it.
Comedy Central is showing an unbleeped version of the roast next Saturday night/Sunday morning at 1 am and again at 2:30 am.
