Jennifer Garner is the new Miss Marple?

I can’t imagine Jennifer Garner being a spinster in her old age.

Next up: a “reimagined” young Nero Wolfe, played by Keanu Reeves.

No more staying cooped up in a brownstone- time to get out and kick some ASS!

There’s just no sane thread of thought that starts with ‘Who should play Miss Marple?’ and ends with ‘Jennifer Garner’. Those two are disconnected points in two distinct universes. But anyway, it’s probably my fault for expecting anything remotely approximating a sane thread of thought from Hollywood.

I see my initial reaction upon reading the thread title of “I’m sorry…WHAT?!” is nigh-universal. That’s always a good feeling…

Actually- I think I’d rather watch Joan Hickson wearing bikinis and slinky lingerie on a re-imagined “Alias.”

A glance at the Japanese anime franchise Tantei Opera Milky Holmes shows that one can go still younger, with a gender-swap as likely as such things ever are.
Sherlock “Sheryl” Shellingford as Sherlock Holmes
Nero Yuzurizaki as Nero Wolfe
Hercule “Elly” Barton as Hercule Poirot
Cordelia Glauca as Cordelia Gray
Plus various others such as Arséne / Henriette Mystere for Arséne Lupin.
It remains stern realism compared to the illiterate inchoate fantasies that inspire a Hollywood studio-boss.

You are my hero. Well, at least for the next 24 hours. So cherish it while you can.

You meant “Vin Diesel”, right?

You’re right- Vin looks much more Montenegrin.

I’ll watch if she’s wearing the Elektra outfit, both for the absurdity of it and for…other…reasons.

I’m now imagining Miss Marple explaining how the suspect’s actions reminded her of the time that the vicar accidentally left his wife’s jewelry, which he was polishing for her, out on the windowsill where they were stolen by a magpie, prompting the vicar to accuse a local boy of theft, while she leaps into the air in a flying kick while positioning her sai to take out the suddenly produced revolver.

Maybe Vin Diesel’s Nero Wolfe and Jennifer Garner’s Miss Marple May do a crossover with Jayden Smith’s Hercules Poirot.

What hurts is that this sounds like it would make a hilarious “Murder By Death”-type spoof.

Heh. I don’t remember which of her bazillion novels had this, but Christie once created a minor character who was a thinly-veiled depiction of herself. She had this English mystery novelist arguing vigorously with a movie producer who wanted to change the writer’s “quirky Finnish detective” into a young guy with a love interest. The fictional novelist resisted all these attempts vigorously, citing the fact that she had millions of fans who liked the detective just the way he was, duh.

I wonder how Christie would have felt about David Suchet’s portrayal of Poirot? I think he’s just perfect.

I know she had an author avatar in the Poirot novels, named Ariadne Oliver.
