Jeopardy! champ Austin Rogers

Yeah I was surprised. The only one they got was the World War Z “oral history” question. The other four - about Dune, John Carter, Fantastic Voyage and The Day of the Triffids were all left unguessed (to be fair, I had never heard of the Triffids).

I didn’t understand Justin’s FJ bet either. $16k gets him into the semis. No reason to bet anything.

Well, the weasel won his game, so he’s in the finals. Is there no justice?

Austin and Buzzy in the finals. Who will outsmug whom? Some of you may want to sit this one out.

I don’t dislike any of them myself, but I’ll probably be rooting for Alan, as I do appreciate more modest personalities.

And Trebek mentioned, the other night, that Buzzy’s actual given name is, in fact…Austin!

That must have some kind of cosmic significance, but I’m not sure what it is.

Edited to add: I don’t think it’s been mentioned here, but I wanted to acknowledge that all of the champions, and Alex Trebek, have been wearing blue ribbons throughout the tournament. That’s in memory of Cindy Stowell, the multi-day champ who died of cancer before her episodes aired. I thought that was a classy touch.

Yes. And I would have loved to see her competing against the other champs. RIP.

“Buzzy” (sorry, I can’t take that name seriously) was noticeably discomfited in Double Jeopardy when he blew a question on a technicality. It was fun to watch.

The Finals were all over the place. Low score totals after round 1, including a goose egg for Buzzy.

Austin had a strong start in round 2, then Alan made a charge, then Buzzy came on strong and went all in on a DD to take a big lead. Alan loses big on the other DD, and Austin was fairly quiet in the DJ round. The FJ clue stumped all three of them. In the end, Buzzy wins, Alan takes 2nd, and Austin finishes in 3rd place.

A very disappointing end to this year’s tournament. I was expecting a lot more action and a closer finish. Last week’s quarterfinals were much more interesting.

So many easy questions blown in both weeks, and for no apparent reason. Pearl Harbor was bombed on a Friday? Come on! :smack:

Forget it. He’s on a roll.

I’ve been sitting out this thread, since my cable box malfunctioned last week and I’ve just now gotten to watch my recorded episodes (everything from last Tuesday on!).

I had a bit of a shadenfreude moment when I saw that, since I’ve found the hate of the two of them way over the top - I actually really like them both.

I’m glad Buzzy won, since he’s my favourite of the three. But, the fact that he brought a very loud cheering section is a much better reason to hate him than any of his behaviour in the game, either in his first run or in the tournament.

I can’t believe none of those “geniuses” got the iPhone question right. I had it in 3 seconds. Did anyone say the iPad was too big??? Plus, 2007… hello!!!

Buzzy got lucky on the DD question, and was smart to go big. That’s certainly one thing all these guys know. It’s often kind of frustrating to see the regular folks lay up on DDs.

Well there is a small bit of justice. Smug tool got third.

I hated to coordinated intro schtick. Let’s all be stupid together.

The only thing I really disliked about Buzzy was his into schtick. And his dorkass glasses, but he got rid of them for the finals.

Buzzy was OK. He seemed like the one of the 3 who could most function well in normal society. You gotta cut him some slack on the manner of dress since he’s in the music business in LA. I wasn’t much amused by Austin. The other guy (can’t even remember his name) was OK… for a really nerdy guy.

Why do you people all hate fun???

It was worth it just to see Trebek try to be a robot.
