It is when the category is “Long Running TV Show Characters” (emphasis mine.) There have been a bunch of Peanuts TV specials, but they were clearly asking about a character on a long-running TV show.
Since when is the “dark side of the moon” synonymous with the “far side of the moon”?
Like, forever?
We’ve done this many times before: while everyone with a basic understanding of the sun/earth/moon configuration knows that the far side of the moon gets about as much light as the close side (excepting the occasional lunar eclipse), the expression “the dark side of the moon” has long been understood to mean the far side.
And one doesn’t have to read “dark” literally. The word is often used to mean something hidden or obscured, as in the (old fashioned and slightly racist) phrase “darkest Africa,” which obviously didn’t mean literally dark, but largely unexplored (by white people).
A recent thread on the subject.
Oh, and @panache45, there’s this thread from August 2003 that covered the same subject, in which you posted!
Seems like the first time we were able to fly up there and take a look at the other side would have been a bigger deal than it was.
Actually, here in Hawaii it’s not been showing at all. It seems the whole thing will air over several hours here tonight, I’ve learned.
Looks like it’s well into it. They may have shown the first half last Saturday, and we missed it.
The winner of the College Championship is my family’s alma mater! :applause:
Tough FJ last night. You had to both figure out that the clue referred to the Girl Scout logo (which I did), and remember the name of the founder (which I didn’t).
Same here. I could not remember her name.
The only way I knew her name was from my childhood stamp collection. There was a U.S. stamp in her honor in 1948.
Alas, I locked on to Julia Ward Howe and couldn’t think of anyone else.
Ditto.
What was with not betting that extra dollar in FJ ??
Maybe she thought it was like the old days where (iirc) tied contestants both returned.
I thought that one was pretty easy tbh. Got it instantly.
Tonight’s was another easy one. Not sure why Christine didn’t bet the extra $1, but I’m glad she won the tie breaker since she should have won anyway had she bet correctly.
I don’t know from plays, so Willy was the only name I could come up with. Besides him and Stanley Kowalski, what other names come to mind?
My brain said that salesman guy… uh…
:fail:
Well, I missed “play” in the clue, so…lots of other characters.
Anyone else totally put off by the current champ’s jewelry and “upscale” appearance? I keep hoping she’ll lose, for no other reason.
