That’s what I was trying to say. You put it much clearer.
I noticed today that when the FJ clue was shown during the 30 second think music, the category was also shown. Is this a new thing?
It’s certainly not a bad idea.
Not new that I can recall.
I noticed that Tuesday. It is new. I like it because there have been many times when the clue was confusing and I’ve had to rewind to check what the category was.
ISTM that it’s not entirely new. I think they’ve done it before, on occasion. I remember seeing it and thinking, “That’s a good idea,” then being disappointed that it wasn’t always there.
Maybe they think there are certain categories that require it and only do it on an ad hoc basis.
I wish they would show the category for the clues in the rest of the game. It’d help for categories like today’s Begins or Ends with A or Z.
I checked the two games I had still on the DVR and actually they both had it. I guess I didn’t see it until Wednesday.
Tomorrow I’ll try and remember to watch the “Daytime Jeopardy!”, which is currently in the Mattea run. And Saturday’s game which is several months back.
Dammit, I watched that today, with the express purpose of checking to see if the category was shown during FJ. Of course, I totally forgot.
But I may have some games in the DVR from the last month. I’ll check them out.
ETA: The game that aired on Friday, May 13, did not have the category for FJ.
The game that aired on Monday, May 16, did have the category for FJ.
Hopefully it’s here to stay.
Yes it is new, they started it on Monday. Previously they had done it once or twice during the time when they were trying to find a new host, but it was just a couple episodes. I hope it’s here to stay now. Several times I’ve forgotten when the category name is once the clue is onscreen.
Mattea’s fourth game, April 22. No category on screen during the think music.
I hope it stays.
The first Jeopardy! spinoff series debuts on ABC on Sundays this fall: Celebrity Jeopardy! Speculation is that Mayim will host, since they said last fall that she would host prime time Jeopardy. The fact that Ken has left The Chase is fueling speculation that he’ll be permanent host of the daily show.
Here’s hoping! He is really very good and relaxed. He has a good sense of humor, and it is not forced like Mayim’s “act.”
She always has to put a phony laugh waver in her voice when reading “humorous” categories. Maybe she’ll od on her brain pills and Ken can come back.
And maybe Ken can read a few more time consuming fun fact lists about Canada.
It isn’t like either is perfect.
Well - that was just because Mattea was from Canada. Other long-time winners will have their own fun-filled fact lists!
The current 7-day champ, Ryan, looks to me like he has a shot at another long run.
I really like him. Excellent player, and seems like a genuinely good guy to boot.
Did anyone get the polio FJ the other day?
ANOTHER long term champ. It’s amazing how frequent this has become.
Not me. I got bogged down thinking about afflictions that target older people rather than ones that haven’t been around for a while. And I didn’t know post-polio syndrome was even a thing.
Yeah sounds like he’s gone through a lot of diversity in his life.
My wife read somewhere, he had to borrow money for the flight to LA. He only had 2 shirts to wear (I haven’t really noticed). He got COVID (and I think has long COVID) and lost his job.
I’m rooting for him to go long!
