Jeopardy! Julia Collins

I thought the middle contestant already had a defeatist attitude at that point in the game. Slumped shoulders, didn’t seem pleased with getting answers right, a bunch of missed or unanswered questions and an opponent with a big lead. But then she gets a chance to jump back into contention and BUZZ she blew it! She almost seemed disappointed to have found the Daily Double clue at all.

Category was Sports related, Chu said he knew nothing about sports and wagered $5, Trebek read the Answer (Question), Arthur immediately said “I don’t know.” Short and sweet, minimum money-making time wasted.

Today’s program was very disappointing. I found the categories spectacularly simple in the first round.

I wasn’t paying that much attention by the 2nd half, as it seems this game was more a display of impeccable buzzer timing than knowledge.

That’s ALWAYS been what Jeopardy is!

She seems to be using a bit of the Ken Jennings formula as well. That is, buzzing in and then working out the answer afterwords. She seemed to grab the “bee keeping” answer out of nowhere, as well as a few others.

Trebek may be smug, patronizing and sexist, but he ain’t stoopid. I think it’s a reference to her having become a Formidable Adversary whom only a “Giant Killer” will defeat. Also, FWIW: “I read somewhere” that she’s taller than average for a human female person.

Trebek called Nancy, the woman who finally toppled Ken Jennings a “Giant Killer” so it’s an old schtick of his.

Ah ha. I swear I didn’t know that.

She now has 15 wins, third most ever. (Consecutive, non-tournament)
Four more wins and she ties Dave Madden at second most with 19.
Five more and she assumes second place only to Ken Jennings.
I think it’s more likely than not she’ll do it.

Discuss.

Also- I notice Trebek isn’t referring to her as “a very bright young lady”; looks like she broke through a glass ceiling of sorts there.

I just watched the game I taped on Friday. I noticed that she swept the Asian American category and the audience didn’t applaud. Maybe there was one lone clap. Have they started discouraging the audience from applauding for sweeping categories now?

Maybe the applause was edited out for time constraints? Cuts like that are often conspicuous.

She had over $10k before the first break tonight.

Tonight I almost want to say the opponents gave it away. Yes, she had over $10k before double Jeopardy. But halfway through the second round she was the only person NOT in the hole. It was shaping up to be a one-person final Jeopardy until the guy on the end cranked in up in the last few categories.

That’s not to disparage her - she’s doing extremely well, but I think the competition was not as good as it usually is tonight.

Yeah, she’s been solid, but her competition has seemed pretty bad most days. Also, the clues seem easier than normal, but maybe the Decades tournament just shifted my usual view.

And they clapped when she ran a category.

That sometimes happens when one person is really good, especially if they’re also really good with the buzzer. If I get the opponents only each get to ring in for 3 or 4 or 5 questions and they each get two wrong, that can leave them both in the hole. If she stays on top of the buzzer for the rest of the game, they’re in trouble. To add to that, even if they know they answer, she’s better with the buzzer at this point.

!!

I can’t believe she was the only one, in Final Jeopardy, to correctly answer in the question 19th Century Politics.. The one contender started to write down the correct answer but didn’t have time to finish it. To me it was an easy win.

But then I wasn’t under a lot of pressure either.

Were you watching a different game?

Wendy got it as well, and was ahead at that point. Julia actually has to wager properly. I think it was the closest win she’s had in a long time.

I have to agree with Just Asking Questions - all three contestants got it right, the middle one just didn’t have time to finish writing down the answer. That being said, I don’t think knowing what state Andrew Johnson is from is all that common knowledge.

It was a good game - I was worried the streak would end.
