One of the best pieces of movie dialogue ever. I love that!!
My uncle met Stefan “Del Gue” Gierasch a few years ago in a bar in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and took a picture with him. Here’s the cropped picture minus my Uncle for privacy reasons… he’d scalp me if I posted the unedited picture.
The guy hasn’t aged much.
I don’t know, I see it more as a Magnificent Seven style gunfighter story. I believe it might even have influenced Clint Eastwood in his more recent films where he showcased the naievete of youth and the hubris of life, case in point- The Unforgiven and Gran Torino. I would even argue that Gran Torino is also a Western, also, specifically, a Gunfighter Western.
I see Gran Torino more as a remake of the New Testament, with Clint as Jesus.
Clint rides into town on a donkey in a couple of his movies, doesn’t he? Now that you bring it up.
Battle Royale, Clint versus Jesus… who wins?
Anyway, in a related bit of trivia, Clint Eastwood was originally supposed to play Jeremiah Johnson.
Man in the Wilderness makes a good companion piece to Jeremiah Johnson. It is also based on a real person, Hugh Glass.
It’s on instant view at Netflix if you’re interested.
Clint has a whole lot more combat experience, I’d go with him if I had to bet money. Also, he’s still alive, which is a big plus in combat.
Well, he’s fighting the Holy Ghost. Bullets aren’t much use against a ghost.
You are moving the goal posts, buddy.
Go ahead, make my Dei.
I just thought I was turning it into an action film.
Ok, then scratch my film fest idea, does it matter if I change it to a retrospective, or mayhaps a composium?
Seriously, you could play the films back to back at our Back to Back Drive-In Theater Duplex. Follow the release dates, Double Feature Little Big Man and Bless the Beasts and Children on the East Screen, Billy Jack and Jeremiah Johnson on the West Screen.
'Round here, it might segregate our theaters… Red and Blue.
Trivia: Robert Redford served as one of his pallbearers when his remains were reinterred. It’s probably the only grave in America to have Liver Eating inscribed on it. Cite with pics.
I’ve seen bits and pieces of Jerimiah Johnson over years, but never in it’s entirety until last month. I had just checked into my hotel after a long day on the road, and was channel surfing for something to watch. There was the young(ish) Redford, snagging a rifle from the cold, dead hands of a frozen trapper. Alright! Great movie to watch over a room service pizza and a couple of beers.
That is awesome!
“No more trails”
Pink and Blue, too. Somebody is going to cry.
