I have not seen a single episode of Coach. I remember him mainly from playing real-life brother Dick’s brother on The Dick Van Dyke Show. I think I did catch him occasionally on My Mother the Car, but not often since that was not a show my parents usually watched.
Supposedly, the audience for show mostly consisted of kids like yourself and teens/young adults. I suspect the latter group, however, might’ve been a bit herbally enhanced when they watched it (especially considering the premise of the program).
Another interesting bit of trivia about My Mother the Car is the writing staff included James L. Brooks and other people who went on to create such classic 70s sitcoms like Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Barney Miller, and Taxi. It would be like if more than half the players on the 2017 Cleveland Browns eventually became perennial All-Pros and members of the HOF.
It was running on Antenna TV on weekends. However, they seemed to have dropped some shows, including MMTC, with the coming of the new year.
I thought it was a one-joke show. Most of the plots involved Avery Schreiber as Captain Manzini, a car collector who kept attempting to gain possession of the car, a 1928 Porter, by fair means or foul.
Loved him on coach. Best ep was when coach babysat his bird and lost it, so opened all the windows and Luther comes back to a room full of pigeons making mess of the place.
Hate to be a grammar nazi, but you have a typo. You wrote “when coach babysat his bird and lost it, so opened all the windows and Luther comes back to a room full of pigeons making mess of the place” when you meant to write “Turtle World.”
