Jessica Rabbit

Why was Kathleen Turner not credited for her role as the speaking voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It’s not as though it was a minor cameo, and IIRC, all the other toons’ voices were credited, including the ones created specifically for this film. Whose idea was it to leave Turner off the credits?

Probably hers. Many actors ask to go uncredited for one reason or another. Robin Williams and Don Cheadle often go uncredited, for example.

I know that some actors often ask to go uncredited, but Kathleen Turner isn’t one of them. Jessica Rabbit is her only anonymous role in the nearly 40 movies to her name. Hence my curiosity…

Trivia tidbit: Amy Irving did Jessica Rabbit’s singing voice.

In the absence of more reliable information, I could add that I recall reading when the film was released, that Kathleen Turner only took the job as a personal favour to Robert Zemeckis and didn’t feel the need to take a credit.

This film has inspired plenty of rumours though, particularly because it required Disney and Warner Bros to allow their characters to share the screen together, and because it covers subjects and scenes that you wouldn’t expect to see in a Disney-approved project, but also because certain members of the cast and crew didn’t like each other.
