I don’t know of any controversy. Her speaking voice was Kathleen Turner. When she sang, Amy Irving provided her voice. That’s been well known ever since the movie came out.

The only mildly ‘controversial’ thing may have been that Amy Irving wasn’t credited onscreen for her performance (she was sleeping with the producer!)
