Jesus Christ and The Second Coming...Are we waiting for Him to be physically reborn or

Parthenogenesis isn’t really all that.

Ah, the power of myth never disappoints.

The Second Coming is a metaphor. The Bible mentions the Second Coming in concrete terms, however, it should not be taken literally.

To me it is a spiritual guide written by individuals who were guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Second Coming is a Judgment Day, that all believers in Christ will someday have to face before passing or shortly thereafter. On that day we are rewarded for living life in an ethical manner and forgiven for our sins.

But you said you believe Jesus will come back to judge you. In what way is he coming back if you don’t think there is any actual second coming- just a judgment? And if the whole thing is a metaphor, why not just spell it out?

The Bible is a great spiritual guide, but it is not a textbook. It does not give people answers it merely helps us to find our own personal answers. A friend of mine went to the same church I did for many years and according to him, “Heaven is where the Heart is.”

As far as I’m concerned that is a very valid conclusion. At least for him.

For me the Second Coming happens in my soul, when I personally meet God and tell Him that I deserve to go to Heaven.

I thought it was the other way around.

OK. So you don’t believe Jesus isn’t actually coming back anywhere or in any way, right?

To the extent that Jesus was human, He’s gone. To the extent He was God, I will meet Him on Judgment Day when I am judged and hopefully found worthy of going to Heaven.

Of course, it is God that makes the final decision. The advantage of looking at the Bible as only a spiritual guide, is that it does not preclude other interpretations of the Bible. Also, there’s the possibility of other spiritual guides (Koran, Old Testament, Zen etc.).

f God knows all things then you are already judged, so why another judgement? He should have known before you were concieved that you would either be saved or destroyed!

The nature of God is a mystery, there are those that are very sure about their faith and don’t hesitate to try and convince you that their view of the Bible and God is correct. I don’t believe in do that and I don’t look at the Bible as a textbook, it is a guide only. Each of us need to decide how helpful the Bible is as a spiritual guide.

What if we decide the ‘Bible’ is useless as a guide?

Why did you choose the “Bible” to be a “guide”?

At the risk of nitpicking, I don’t think you believe in the Second Coming. You believe God/Jesus will judge everybody, which is a typical Christian belief - but it’s distinct from the concept of the Second Coming and in context I don’t think the Second Coming is intended to be a metaphor. And the way you are describing your views could not be any less clear. You’ve turned “Jesus will come back” into “I will go to Jesus” and those mean opposite things. Using them as synonyms makes it harder to figure out what you are saying.

Although there is some good in the Bible, there are also so many contradictions so one has to sort out what they believe, but it has to be hard to know which writing is true and what not.and when one considers that humans decided what was good and what was not is still a problem. There are many writings that are written by humans such as the Koran, the Book Of The Dead etc., that contain some good advice, and maybe that is why there are so many different religions, and ways to look at what the word God means.

It seems like you are exploring different religions, that is good and important. In life it helps to simply explore for a while with an open mind. Just remember, it is a spiritual quest, when you find the right religion (or world view) with the right people it will be worth the wait.

I’d like the know if pchaos believes the New Testament teaches ‘The Second Coming’ erroneously or if the doctrine of The Second Coming is an erroneous interpretation of NT passages about our judgment before God/Jesus. There is a strong argument that Jesus’ “you shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds” references to Daniel 7 actual are about His ascension to the Father, not His return.

If Jesus has a second physical incarnation, then Saint Mary would have to share the BVM honor with some other woman. That would never do. Only one Queen of Heaven, yes?

Jesus, if existed, is nothing more than an apocalyptic who couldn’t read or right. If that’s who’s judging me, hope he doesn’t mind when I judge him.

Then Jesus would be judged by a man who can’t write write right. Right?

Erm… meant to be a pun on the Christian right! Yeah… that’s the ticket.
