Jesus Christ and The Second Coming...Are we waiting for Him to be physically reborn or

I believe it is Jesus return. There are many Christians that believe that as long as you believe in Jesus, you will be judged worthy.

Why would god–IF there is a god-- place a requirement like that on judgement, or even require judgement? There are people in this world who have never heard of jesus.
What of them? Or the people who lived and died before jesus allegedly walked this earth?
Only a human, needy god would make such a requirement.

I am in my 80’s have studied many religions, archeology, etc. read the Bible at least 24 times in my life time;I didn’t really think about what I had read until much later in life, then the contradictions etc. became obvious to me. I also studied history, history of different religions etc. and realized that all writings, teachings, thoughts etc. are all of human origin and it depends on what human one chooses to believe. So in reality one doesn’t place their faith in a God but in a humans idea of what a God is. I am not on a spiritual quest anymore, I don’t think there is any religion a God( if it exists) is anything like the religions speak of, because they all have different teachings and are not in agreement. Even Christianity is very divided in it’s teachings. As I see it there is some good in all teachings but none have the truth, and to me belief is not fact, I personally prefer fact.

How do you explain Jesus being quoted as saying He would return in his father’s glory with his angels while some of them standing there lisening to him would not yet have seen death? It didn’t happen or why wasn’t it recorded, non of those people standing there are alive today after nearly 2,000 years. I have asked people who should be in the know that used the Transfiguration as when. There were no angels there, nor at the Ressurection that was sort of a secret.

If God knows all things ahead of time there would be no need for a judgment.

I had no idea that you were in your 80’s, but you are so young at heart. Your asking good questions. Never, ever, give up on the spiritual quest…when you do that you are ready to meet your Maker.

Also, I’ve never looked at religious texts like a high school textbook. I do not believe any of them has all of the answers. A religious text is worth looking at if it is a helpful guide.

I also look at the Bible like any other book. At different times in history, different types of writing forms were used and accepted. For instance, parables, metaphors, similes, historic, and poetic. Various formats were used. Historic, novels, memoirs etc. I’m sure you get the point. The Bible was written a long time ago using a format that we are really not that familiar with.

I do not take the passage about Jesus actually coming back literally. But then He is God and He did arise from the dead, so anything is possible.

<bolding mine>

So, God was dead?

Instead of being so full of yourself and give him advice, you just might take his advice serious, that it is all bullshit.

You are not only full of yourself, you are also full of it.

I did take him seriously and I gave him my best advice. If that is not good enough for you then that’s simply too bad.

The good thing about being on a spiritual quest is that I don’t have to be nice to everybody. Joan the Arc certainly wasn’t.

If nothing else, assume that I’m trying to answer his question. If I didn’t, explain to me where I went wrong.

Jeanne d’ Arc was on a spiriual quest…rrrrright.

Maybe you would do well explaining what exactly we should understand by this term of yours. What does that really mean " Being on a spiritual quest", in concreto?

Please be clear enough so that we can grasp why, if you are not on one, that you are “ready to meet your Maker”.

Mavis was looking for answers. I explained that there are no answers. A spiritual quest is a continual process that never ends. Basically, a person on a quest is not looking for an answer…they believe that the process itself is all that matters.

Not clear at all.

Try again, please.

Besides…

No, You are looking for (spiritual) answers. Monavis explained there are none. That after having studied it all, that now he’d rather have facts.

If Jesus does return, I hope somebody rewinds him first.

There is always a shortage of facts. You can decide to let that defeat you or you can decide you will thrive anyway. On my spiritual quest I’ve decided I will thrive anyway. I’m not out to convince anybody that they should read the Bible or otherwise seek the guidance of the Bible. I just know it helps me.

Assuming he even made it the first time, considering what the welcoming committee did to him, I don’t think he’s in any hurry to come back.

Y’know, when I’m not trying to convince people of something, I just don’t bring that certain something up over and over again.

Just sayin’.

There once was a fellow named Jesus
Whose coming again is to please us
Unless we are bad
So he said, the glib lad
I bet he just wanted to tease us

I’ve been straightforward. This thread is about the Second Coming…if there was no discussion of religion and the Bible, you would then say I was misleading you with the title to this thread.

pchaos, do I need your permission to have this etched on my tombstone?

This thread is about Fuzzy Religion. This thread is about appearing knowledgeable and spiritual without imparting any actual knowledge about what you are spiritual about. This is “All Paths Lead To God…Even The Ones The Directly Contradict Other” bull. Why did you even bother to start the thread if in your opinion all paths are supposedly equal?
