Jesus is God.

I’ll try again.

I hand wave that away. Jesus is not god.

Out of curiosity, are you an atheist?

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

To give the guy credit, he posted his religious view in bold terms on a message board sure to challenge him. The least those willing can do is take up the gauntlet without personal insult.

Among many other things, I am also an atheist.

Here it comes, are you ready Czarcasm?

Lol. No, I got nothing.

Then why ask?

Because I might have had some footing if he wasn’t.

Because another belief is less likely than yours?

Among religious theologies I believe Emanuel Swedenborg’s is the most coherent.

Is the faith most likely to be true that which most appeals to reason?

What other measure would it be determined by?

Great. I hope you stick around.

Using invisible ink! Now that really looks like a ninja!

Cool! Since I would never do such a thing, I know I am guaranteed a place in Heaven. Thanks!

Best question I’ve heard in a long, long time. My instinct is to say yes. It would still be a “faith,” taken without sufficient evidence, but it strives best to fit the evidence we have. A faith which requires us to ignore evidence contradicts reason. A faith that is clearly a house of cards, built out of complex structures of special pleading, is not attractive to reason.

To the degree that an article of faith accords with evidence, and, further, makes logical sense (avoids self-contradiction) and, further yet, makes philosophical sense , i.e., accords well with our best notions of true-and-false and with our best notions of right-and-wrong, then that faith is admirable. To the degree that an article of faith violates these qualities, it is less admirable.

It doesn’t have to explain everything; but that which it does explain must be true…and good.

Then what was the purpose of your question?

As I stated above, I might have had some footing if you weren’t.

It’s fortunate for RedRain that throughout history the belief with the strongest foundation in reason happens to be the one he was raised in, what are the numeric odds of that?

lol
