Jesus, lissener...

Dunno. Troll?

What about fantasy violence against men? Is that still okay?

This still cracks me up. It was “fantasy violence”–insofar as it even was; it was actually more like a joke on hyperbolic overreaction–against a customer, whose gender was wholly irrelevant. Ask me sometime about the male customers I hate. Not the mention the customers of both genders I like; the vast majority. It’s those awful few who make for such stressful (but entertaining) breaks in a day’s routine.

En toto! Dude, thanks, you just made my whole day. Let me know when your membership lapses, I’d like to sponsor it.

Bah, I never get any credit around here.

Sorry dude, credit’s all yours. Still, it did make my day. I’m thinking of having Tshirts printed.

Excuse my ignorance but what does G.E.D. mean and why is it a put down?

S’ok. It’s just that heaping abuse on someone else’s pretentiousness makes me feel more “authentic” somehow.

The t-shirt I imagine is captioned “En garde, Toto”, and has a picture of QED losing a fencing bout to a celebrity dog.

QED – Quod Erat Demonstrandum. A medieval logical term that indicates that an argument has proven what it set out to prove. Not typically used anymore in modern formal logic.

GED – Graduate Equivalency Degree. If you didn’t get through high school, you can take a test for your GED. In most circumstances, it is not considered to be a major educational accomplishment.

Also known as the Good Enough Diploma. :stuck_out_tongue:

Generally, there is a negative connotation to getting this instead of an “actual” High School diploma.

Huh. Learn something new every day. I have never heard of it called anything other than a graduate equivalency degree or graduate equivalency diploma.

But then again, I am hardly an expert, given that I graduated high school.

FWIW, I don’t consider the GED to be a stain on anyone’s educational reputation; it indicates some personal effort, even pride, and suggests initiative and autodidacticism, for want of a shorter word. It’s funny as an insult to QED because the fool will rush in to a discussion on any subject, more eager to be the one with the first answer rather than the right one. He’s one of the most spectacular examples of the arrogance/ignorance disconnect that can be at the same time so funny and so annoying.

ETA: In other words, my use of it as an insult to QED should be considered a joke, and not taken as a disparagement of anyone who’s actually gotten a GED.

There was certainly an element of belittlement and scorn for the customer in question, but to me, “rich white plastic surgery victim” is about class tension, not misogyny. First you get the self-explanatory “rich”; then “white”, which was clearly included to reinforce the picture of her as a thoughtless and unfeeling member of the upper class; then the reference to plastic surgery, something only the upper class can afford on the large scale that is implied; then “victim”, implying an addiction to expensive surgery. Her gender seemed incidental to me. If anything, the problem was in lissener’s attitude about people who didn’t agree with his taste in movies, but that was explained by the Scarecrow thing.

As for the whole kick-in-the-cunt thing, I thought it was hilarious, and I like to think I don’t usually go for lowbrow humor. Someone has already explained it, but since I know elelle to be smarter than (s?)he’s letting on, I’ll take a stab at it myself: It’s funny because you expect “of course” to be followed by something he routinely does to/with customers who make unreasonable demands, and you get something that’s totally absurd and that he wouldn’t even consider actually doing to a customer in any circumstance except (maybe) self-defense. When you see “of course”, you expect something like, “I reasoned with her”, or “I told her she was being silly”, or “I gave her a refund” or “I didn’t give her a refund” or even “I told that bitch to go to hell”, but not “I kicked her in the cunt”. The juxtaposition is funny to some people, myself included. If it doesn’t make you laugh, that’s fine, elelle, but you claimed that you would accept any reasonable explanation of it, so why not make good on your promise?

Cite where I ever said “better than 5 star restaurants” please. That’s adding a bit of silly, imagined hyperbole to a true statement. He is an amazing cook, one of those rare people who can hunt around your kitchen and pull out enough foodstuffs to make an incredible meal just as you were ready to go to McDonalds because there “wasn’t anything to eat” in the house. If he plans in advance and goes shopping for it, he can make delicious and complicated gourmet meals. Why add the extra bit of bullshit I never said?

Equipoise, stop attacking someone just because they disagree with you.

:dubious:

Just to Q.E.D.. Nice back pedal, bitch.

Not that I have one.

I was able to complete my high school education completely stoned.

But, Cough Blow Me Cough Show me!

Ok, it’s kind of old school internet but ‘IIRC’ stands for ‘If I recall correctly’. Which means that in my message I’m stating that you have praised his cooking skills previously, but I didn’t recall the exact rating you gave him. So I didn’t add any extra bullshit, to the bullshit you already said and you just added a bit more.

For those of you that don’t remember I am of course refering to this post from a previous lissener pitting that was almost dead till you came and defended him. (kind of like this one)

Re-reading that post, was a character in Adaptation based on lissener?

I’m so glad you posted that. I hadn’t seen it before, and now I will sleep better at night, knowing that lissener is not a Republican! Thank god!
