Jesus loves me, this I know. Does the Bible tell me so?

Actually, you brought up modern theology to accuse me of citing it, rather than the Gospels. That was a false charge, and when I proved that I was citing the Gospels, you accused me of taking them too literally.

Well, you can’t just say the parts of the Bible you don’t like are not to be taken literally. The Bible really does say that there were fruit trees growing on the earth before the sun was created, it really does say that women should be stoned if they cannot prove that they were virgins on their wedding day, it really does say that homosexuals are to be executed, and it really does say that on Judgement Day, sinners will be sentenced to eternal punishment in eternal fire.

And it says that in the very same sentence that says the righteous get eternal life. You want to believe one, but not the other. It doesn’t work that way.

You seem to be wanting to argue about whether the Bible is true, or whether the things said in the Bible should be interpreted this way or that… none of which is the topic of this thread. The only question, HERE, is whether the Bible does or does not contain a particular kind of statement, namely that “Jesus loves you”. This question has been solidly answered with citations to all the verses saying variations of that, which any of us are free to interpret however we are moved, or to disregard.

I’m done before this becomes a GD. I’ll let the gentle readers decide for themselves.

I know the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) loves me.
I communionize him about every week…
