If it makes any difference, Drain, I know what you mean, and I agree with you. I do take offfense, but, then, how can you fight such a thing? Getting as vocal as they do brings you down to their level. And quietly denouncing them allows them to malign you.
Personally, I think the only way to combat such things, as a Christian, is to make every effort to live my life as I should, in Christ’s name, following His example, and hope that it somehow overrides the fanatics at the bottom line. I have faith that it does, even if it doesn’t show right now.

Everyone else prior to your little misspelled comment (“insultung”) was responding to the OP and its content. You felt the need to toss in a trite statement about the title without elaboration. You basically had nothing to add to the OP–you just wanted to bitch about the title.
aenea–who sincerely wanted to post to the topic–was bothered by the fact that you came into the thread to add nothing but a complaint about how the title was worded–and you were essentially rude about that. You were not interested in explaining (like a big boy) why the title offended you or even explaining anything at all. She merely pointed out (harshly) that in the scheme of things it really doesn’t matter what a thread is called and it sure as hell doesn’t matter if you (or anyone else, for that matter) thinks it is offensive because it is only a title–the actual post is what is important!!
The thing I was calling you on was your incredibly childish and stupid method of altering her username (and subsequently, mine) in your reply. That is completely infantile and I expected better from you. And as far as believing that the title was unfair, unreasonable, and inflammatory, Ultress, Ramesh, and Punditlisa also all agree with me on this. And, yes the content does matter, but so does the title. If I posted a thread titled “All Niggers should be turned back into slaves”- but it was about reverse discrimination, or something equally reasonable, I would get slammed for posting a “trolling” title. And they would be right.

As to being an asset, many have called me a good debater, and have praised my points & cites. True, many have NOT liked my points, mainly when the point shows they are wrong, and many have also disliked my opinions, and they are perfectly correct in that. When someone shows my point wrong, I admit it. When someone says my opinion is wrong, well, that’s THEIR opinion.
I have made NO claims to religous piousness, in fact on several occasions I have called myself “a poor Christian”, a “a doubting Christian”, and have also said “many Christians would say I am NOT a Christian”. I doubt if those qualify me for “rightous”. What I am, is a pretty good Biblical Scholar, and one of the few here with some sort of Christian point-of-view. (I admit most of our Talmudic scholars surpass me, but they have all admitted to poor knowledge of the NT). I have never professed to having Christian “love for my fellow man”, and in fact, the milk of human kindness flows rarely from my writings, but why should it?. I have admitted being “an opinionated asshole, at times”, but that puts me in Damn good company here on the SDMB (Right, folks?). At least I am not a hypocrite. Pompous? Probably, at least a little.
And you say “nobody is here to please you”, to which I agree, but you seem to think we are here to please YOU. I have every right to my opinion, and in fact I am not alone in that opinion, here. I read every word posted to this thread, up till a few minutes ago. Even after considering all the argument, I was still pissed off about the title. I’ll get over it, but it does raise some questions. Drain Bead was a dick to write it, so maybe…Drain Bead is only Satan’s sock puppet. This is starting to make some sense.

The first time I saw the title, I thought, “Ah-ha! Somebody’s worried that nobody will post to his thread, so he’s giving it a deliberately inflammatory title to make sure to at least pump up the Views. The more views you can get, the more likely it is that somebody will give in and post.”
But then I looked over and saw that it was Drain Bead’s thread and I realized, “Naaa, when has DB ever worried about how many people post to one of her threads?” and then I realized, “Wow, she must really be pissed!” And I was right, she was.
So.
With all due respect, Scotticher, I think that one thing is necessary from our side of the equation, before we can expect nonbelievers to fail to condemn our faith because of the actions of the zealots.

This is the same old game Satan used to love to play. It’s called ‘Goad the Christians,’ and apparently it’s as much fun now as it was then. The point of the game is to write a defensible post that will snare a few Christians who will object to what they perceive as a slight, and then to fight with them.
The OP was worded not only to make a point about the flaws of some fundamentalists (how original!), but also to be confrontational and to raise hackles.
At least Drain had the integrity to post this bait in the pit, where it belongs.
