After four years of using the same 15-inch stock Dell monitor, I bought a new one today at Best Buy. Compared to the old one, it’s absolutely enormous - 22 inch widescreen at 1680 by 1050 pixels. It’s made by Envision, which I gather is a “budget brand” (from what the salesman told me and from what I’ve read online.) The list price was 255 but I got it for 230 because I bought the display model.
Despite being supposedly of inferior quality to some of the other monitors there (the Samsungs, for instance) this one looks great in my opinion. It definitely looks a thousand times better than the one I’ve been using for the past 4 years, and it completely dwarfs it in size. Playing Battlefield 2 and Flight Simulator has been way more fun than it was with the smaller monitor. And it was really fun before, so that’s saying a lot.
Does anyone else have an Envision monitor? Has it held up well, or am I in for some trouble down the road?
My brother, a computer programmer who builds his own computers for fun, advised me when I got my latest PC to spend money on the monitor because it is the part you use the most.
Something very bad just happened. I was playing Flight Simulator and the program crashed. Now there are tiny green dots all over my desktop. I restarted several times, re-installed the Geforce driver several times, and even unplugged the 3D card and put it back in - and the green dots are still there.
Don’t know if this is a problem with the monitor or the card though.
