Jet Li Vs Jackie Chan..

The showdown who would your money be on? I think Jet is in better shape and probably faster and in his prime but I think Jackie Probably has more talent then him.

Jackie is more of a slapstick martial Artist. Plus they both have very different styles. It might be like comparing Karate to Judo.
Isn’t there a film coming out with both of them in? (for the first time)

I can’t be arsed to look, but wasn’t one of these guys’ last movie billed as their last martial arts movie?

To the OP, I give the fight to Jackie Chan. He seems like he can improvise like hell.

Well it seems to be on at the flicks in the US at the moment…

The film was fun, I saw it yesterday. I am no fan of Chop-Saki but I tend to like Jackie Chan movies when not teamed up with annoying American Comedic actors.

It was a strange little Chinese Fantasy Epic and would never be mistaken for a great movie or great writing but they made it fun. It did not hurt that Golden Sparrow was very cute.

As to an actually fight, I guess I would bet on Jet Li, but only as he is 9 years the younger. I don’t know enough about martial arts to know which was better in their prime.

When Fearless was released in 2006 it was stated that Jet Li had decided it would be his last martial arts movie. Since then he’s appeared in War and now The Forbidden Kingdom, both of which appear to be martial arts movies.

I haven’t seen anything about why he’s changed his mind.

It was his last martial arts epic, as I recall. Not quite sure what that was supposed to mean, though.

My money’s on Li, but I am a fanboy. This is a fairer fight than my Jet Li vs. Keanu Reeves thread from a couple of years ago!

Jet Li has won 15 gold medals in national Chinese wushu competitions for his fanzi eagle claw style, and, as I understand it, is well-acquainted with several other styles. If I remember correctly, his wushu training differs form Jackie’s because Jackie was trained in the acrobatic/theatrical style of wushu.

Jackie’s Peking Opera School (where he was trained from childhood) probably used martial arts more to focus on balancing, acrobatics and tumbling.

Now, granted, Jet Li’s medals are all in non-sparring events. His ability in forms is what makes him a great film martial artist. Does that translate well into actual fighting? Jackie has also never been one for competitive matches.

All that being said, I still think Jet Li would have the edge. Jackie has been working overtime on his films for a long, long time. Presumably, Jet Li was trained in wushu as a combat art, without the focus on acrobatics that Jackie received.

I’d rather see a matchup between them and Tony Jaa

Jackie can take punishment like no man I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen clips of him breaking bones and going on to finish the take. I like Li, but I think Jackie can take him.

I think it would be even, only because while Jet is younger, Jackie has nearly 40 years of experience and doesn’t seem to bend to pain in any form. He is tougher. Don’t let the comedy fool you.
My Life In Action is a refreshing bio by Jackie. HIghly recommended.

The whole “last martial arts movie” was taken out of context and blown out of proportion to promote the film. It was the last wushu historical epic about a real life chinese martial artist he intended to make. After he played Huo Yuan Jia in “Fearless,” he’d done a portrayal of pretty much every famous Chinese martial artist of the Qing Dynasty era and he was tired of it. He still inteded to continue making normal action movies.
