JFK snare drum passage

I just realized I had this burning question…Ever since I saw the movie JFK, I was entranced by the opening theme, especially the rousing snare drum passage that’s in it. If I were to count it out, part of it would go like so:

ONE e an a TWO e an a THREE e AN a FOUR e an a…

Kinda like a roll, or paradiddles, with latin clave accents. The point is, it sounds rather militaristic, which shouldn’t be surprising. I get the feeling I’ve heard it somewhere before. CDNOW was no help. Any rudimental drum fans or otherwise musicians out there who know what the piece is called, and if it was written for the movie or just borrowed?

The snare drum passage is called Drummer’s Salute, performed by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. It’s on the JFK soundtrack, which unfortunately is out of print. I used to have a copy on tape and now I’m sorry I lost it. But see this site for more info.

Thank you! It was really bugging me. Well, I’m off to look for a sound file of it, if I can, and try to learn it:P
