Jian Ghomeshi, host of Q on CBC, fired.

I was at a Halloween party yesterday night. One of the guys there said he’d have dressed up as Ghomeshi, but that would’ve been too scary.

I liked Moxy Fruvous, but I don’t want to listen to them anymore. By the way, the band has released a statement about this situation:

“As former colleagues of Jian (our last show was in 2000), we are sickened and saddened by this week’s news. We had no inkling that Jian engaged in this type of behaviour. We abhor the idea of a sexual relationship of any sort being entered into without full consent from both parties and condemn violence against women in any form. We wish only health and healing to everyone involved.”

As for Halloween costumes, especially the couple ones, they just piss me off!
Is it any wonder he got away with this for so long?
And people wonder why the victims didn’t come forward!

The author of this op-ed piece sounds like a dork overall, but I think this snippet is perfectly stated and expresses why I didn’t like his persona even before any allegations came out:

He apparently kind of courted the rumor that he was gay as well. Probably made him seem more harmless.

I think I saw a video a while ago where he said when he was younger ( a teenager?) he thought he might be gay, but it ended up that he wasn’t, or something like that. Sorry I can’t find the video.

If anyone cares where he’s disappeared to nowadays, it says on a couple online articles that he was apparently recently spotted in LA, but this is just a rumour as far as I know. (cite)

At one point (i’m thinking more than 5 years ago, maybe more like 8? )his web page had a statement that Jian did not discuss his sexual orientation publicly or answer questions about his orientation. I always kind of wondered if he was gay, (kind of made sense to me, since I tend to develop crushes on gay men) and recently I saw a picture of him …he’s gained weight and grown out a stubble beard… I wondered if he was rocking a bear look.
.
I read 1982 a few months ago. I figured from that he wasn’t gay.

To get an idea of how big this story is, I was at a workshop yesterday on creativity and storytelling through art. The man sitting next to me left part way through because he wasn’t feeling creative, and he was “just so upset” about this story. He claimed not to have eaten or slept well in days because of this, although he doesn’t know anyone involved. I thought that was de trop but that is a measure of how much this story is affecting CBC radio listeners. (All dozen of us?)

Shudder it’s one thing to screw up my weekday morning radio, but quite another thing to wreck the best Canadian sit-com since “King of Kensington”. I have never quite decided if I want Wanda Dollard or Nancy Robertson to be my best friend. If it had been Brent Butt instead of Jian Ghomeshi, can you imagine the field day the American media would have. Worst named PR disaster since Anthony Wiener!

Found an article saying, among other things, that this investigation has been going on a while. A while before the story broke, I mean. Originally a Toronto Star article, but I had to find it elsewhere since, because of this whole news story and the number of Star articles I’ve been clicking on lately, I’ve begun to hit against the Star’s paywall.

I also read a tweet on Twitter saying that later today, there might be more information about the police investigation.

And another article:Q Guests Come Out Against Ghomeshi Via Growing Petition Supporting The Women

I don’t think he has many allies/supporters left.

Canadaland Nov 2nd - We all knew about Jian

Interesting fact. While Jesse Brown was:

  1. working on this story for over a year
  2. did warn of an upcoming, damnningly big, story on his Oct 20th podcast
  3. did break the original news story about Jian kicked from the CBC on Oct 24th.
  4. Jian wrote his Facebook response (Oct 26th) with the idea that Jesse Brown’s story will come out soon in the Star
  5. and the Star published it’s story (Oct 26th and full story Oct 28th) in response to Jian’s Facebook message/fireing.
Jesse Brown’s Oct 20th note on his podcast WASN’T about Jian, but Edward Snowden!

I just listened to the linked podcast.
So, if I understand correctly, Jian, by accident, helped to orchestrate his own downfall.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that too! I’m wondering if it isn’t like a serial killer who, perhaps only subconsciously, wants/needs to get caught, and, one assumes, stopped.

You could build a case, that he grew more deluded or, confident he was untouchable, growing bolder or less careful over time. The tape he brought into to show the, at that time, ‘almost buying it’ CBC, of graphic but consensual rough sex that would supposedly confirm that bruising is proof of nothing because since it also occurs when full consent is present. And apparently he was on the tape! Now the question becomes why would he use a tape with him in it? And not one featuring strangers but the same activities?

Hearing the details of some of the attacks makes it seems like he did these things, not just to the weak, but also some people who hold sufficient empowerment as to have done him damage, should they have come forward. Lawyers, tv personalities, etc.

Plus the assaults seem to follow a very clear pattern, contributing to the believability of the victims. But he’s clearly not a stupid man, and as a gifted manipulator you have to wonder he didn’t consider that.

Who can say? Maybe this deviance includes the drive to be eventually found out and stopped.

Hmmm, I don’t know for sure, but it looks like s.14 (a) or (b) and s.76 of Commissioner’s Directive 556-12 will permit him to keep Big Ears Teddy if things go the way they look like the are going. Just as well, for I wouldn’t want him to raise a Charter s.7 issue over being separated from someone (well, something, if you ask me) who’s sensibilities are more important to him than those of the people whom he batters.

The victims, confirming he always turned the Teddy around so as not to see, immediately made me think there’s probably a camera in that thing!

Did Jian beat up Edward Snowden or did Snowden beat up Jian?

Big Ears Teddy makes me think of poor sexually abused Bear from the TV show Wilfred.

The story was about how Terry Milewski sat on information showing Canadian government’s spying efforts. This info came from Glenn Greenwald who received it from Edward Snowden.

Milewski is a long time veteran on the news scene here in Canada (with a lot of respectability built up), so he might feel pretty damn relieved on how Jian’s story now muffles the one questioning his own journalist credibility.

Thanks. Seems to work for the time being, and in the process of testing out that workaround, I found a new article - “Ghomeshi used CBC-owned phone for texts that led to firing, source says” - from the article: “Jian Ghomeshi used a CBC-owned phone to send lewd text messages to women, a source has told the Star.”

Also, I heard that we won’t actually hear any new news from the police investigation today.
