What sort of kimono would a japanese woman have committed Jigai in ?
My limited understanding from reading Liz Dalby’s book on Kimonos:
Most likely whichever style of kimono she had on at the time. There were kimonos for official ceremonies (black with the family small in white on the fronts and backs of the shoulders and between the shoulder blades). But that was for anything official, not specifically suicide. If it was a spur of the moment sort of suicide, she might not have had time to bust out her Sunday best.
Some one withe more cultural expertise, please correct me.
