Jimmy Hoffa became Cecil 25 years ago today?

It’s been 25 years since Hoffa “diasppeared”.

I think he just went to the cover he had establised for him by the FBI in Chicago as a mild-mannered newpaper reporter.
(An idea they ripped off of Superman comics. They never were very creative.)
OK, columnist. He had to travel incognito, after all.

Obviously they had him start the column a little before he was to testify. The first column ran Feb 2, 1973, the week after he was testifying again. It was about the Democtatic convention of '68, where he had goons working for Mayor Dailey. The Feds obviously had enough to put him away, but wanted to bring the whole organization down instead, as a higher priority.

Unless I’m guessing wrong, but that only happens 10% of the time.

Jesus, tshirts, just how many of these threads have you started already?

OK, some math. 2000 minus 25 equals 1975. OK.

Now, some reading. In particular, the sign at the door:

Fighting Ignorance Since 1973

Duh.

Well. duh yourself coldfire. It would be too obvious if the Straightdope started right when Hoffa disappeared. He had to start writing it slightly beforehand. I think it makes perfect sense.

Finally, all of those cryptic references to the teamsters and slams against Ron Carey that we’e found in the StraightDope make sense.

If this is an old joke, I’m unaware of it.
I thought of it because of the mention of the anniversary in the paper.

Your note of 1973 just shows you didn’t even bother to read my OP before answering. Try to keep up.

Brilliant!
