In today’s For Better or For Worse, it looks like Jim, Elle’s father, has died. That was probably the reason for the flashback strips the past few weeks.
Link to the online strip.
This was mentioned in another thread, but I still read your thread title and thought that Shatner had boldly gone where many men have gone before.
We need to know how many points are involved.
On a completely unrelated subject, racer72, is your real name Michael?
Nope.
He’s dead, Jim.
Who’s dead?
Jim.
I know who you are, but who is dead?
Jim.
Damnit, what the fuck is the matter?
He’s DEAD, Jim.
Yes, but what is his NAME?
Jim
AAAAAARRRGGGHHHHH.
For a minute I was worried this thread was going to be about WhatExit?.
McCoy ©:He’s dead, Jim.
Captain Kirk (K):Who’s dead?
C: Jim.
K: Yes, I asked you who’s dead.
C: Jim.
K: Damnit, what’s wrong man?!
C: He’s DEAD, Jim.
K: Yes, but what is his NAME?
C: Jim
K: No, not my name, his name!
C: Jim, he’s dead.
K: I know! For the love of God what is his name?
C: Jim!
K: KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! -blasts McCoy to space dust-
Fuck, ignore the first version of that joke please… I missed the edit window
I’m hoping for Jack Black to play the life of William shatner one day.
Yes, it seems that way, doesn’t it?
Depressing day in the funnies today, indeed. Looks like Jim’s dead, looks like Lisa in Funky Winkerbean is going to die very soon.
I think that this was her end.
Two comic strips that I’ve read from adolescence to middle age…and they kill off characters the same week, if not the same day. ![]()
“…Jefferson lives…”
Yeah, me too. Oh wait.

I’m not a real comic reader. So please tell me the significance of of Jim’s death. Is it the end of an era?
I think the last thing that caught my attention was when some woman whacked a guy with a frying pan for no apparent reason in “Rex Morgan.”
Jim is Elly’s father. Not really necessarily the end of an era kind of thing, but still sad.
And she whacked him with a frying pan for a very good reason. He had kidnapped her and was holding her for ransom. And no, I’m not proud that I know that…
Well, that shows how much I know. Good for her.
We don’t know Jim’s dead yet. Iris’ shock could be that he’s had a spontaneous and complete remission from his stroke. He just sat up and said, “That Anthony’s grown up to be a fine man. He’d make a great husband for Liz.”
BOXCAR!!
