I dunno about that, Lemur. I’ve seen them both in concert, and I’d actually give JB a bit of an edge. Don’t get me wrong, they are both wonderful artists in their own rights. I just find JM to be a little too depressing. (That’s JM = Joni Mitchell, not John Mace!)
looks down, kicks shoes
I’m sorry, mister. I’ll go get off your lawn now.
I’ve got at least 10 years on you, young feller!
And quit making so much noise!!!
Oh, too bad. Now we can never be friends again. No offense.
If you’re going to assume that there was a miscommunication on the timeline, why not assume there was a miscommunication on the reason behind the decision? Maybe General Whassisface said to the booking agent, “If she comes here, I’ll shoot you and then her.” but it somehow got transcribed as, “Unfortunately she cannot attend due to a contractual technicality.”
Most of the retirees and veterans who are cared for at Walter Reed are treated as outpatients. Those who have hospital stays there generally have short ones, thankfully.
Family members who are cared for there also are treated on an outpatient basis for the most part, or have short stays.
The bulk of patients who have long stays are either elderly patients with end of life issues or current military members who are dealing with the problems of recovery and rehabilitation after being wounded in combat. Entertainment at the hospital is generally aimed at these individuals.
Actually, most of my friends are younger than you. No offense.
Can I just have my frisbee back?
Please?
The issue of posters assuming that the patients at Walter Reed would only want to hear one genre of music seems more than a bit odd, to me. Even if you only take the 19 - 23 year old demographic, you’re going to get folks who prefer Hip Hop (or Gansta Rap), Urban R&B, Country, Metal, Techno, and a host of other forms. Do we eliminate every act that does not appeal to everyone, leaving no one to perform? Beyond that, when I have been to concerts with folk groups I have seen a fairly large numbers of late teens and early twenty-somethings, so the claims that the patienrts don’t want Joan Baez are nothing more than personal prejudices projected onto a canvass of stereotypes.
It is possible that few, if any, patients would go out of their way to seek her out. That is a very different statement than that they would universally be bored or irritated to hear her, (the tin ears of geezers such as asterion and Mr Bus Guy notwithstanding).
May I point out that in addition to the war wounded patients staying at Walter Reed, the vast majority of whom are in outpatient status but still receiving daily therapy there (the average amputee stay is approx. 18 months), the vast majority of them have one or more family members staying with them, which is parents and grandparents as often (or more often) than spouses? So the actual age demographic on the Walter Reed campus is probably closer to 50 than to 20 if you include all the resident family members, staff, etc. (Don’t forget, staff sometimes are able to go to these types of events if they don’t fill up completely with patients.)
It’s not just a bunch of kids there, guys!!
Wait, Diosa is black?
That one is going to be around for quite awhile, isn’t it?
And I’m going to laugh every time someone brings it up, too.
24 is the new geezerdom? I mean, I’ve heard of “don’t trust anyone over 30” (and boy, the boomers don’t like having that thrown back at them) but 24?
Oh, and she did do “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” as well. That song sucks too.
Geezer is not an age, it is a state of mind.
Yours truly,
Old Coot
Where have all the geezers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the geezers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the geezers gone?
Off to CS to complain about what the young kids are listenin’ to these days.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
When will we ever learn?
In Logan’s Run (the book, not the movie), it was 21.
Imagine trying to run a high-tech society with nobody over 21 . . .
Joan Baez doing Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan covers. Who wudda thunk?
What I thought was wrong is that she blew the lyrics. (So much cavalry?)
Speaking of out of it, did anyone see John Mellencamp filling in for Roger Ebert last week? Most clueless movie reviewer ever!
I have no idea what this means. The covers still suck.
