I thought this one one of the best eps so far this season. I didn’t like Judith, but she was beginning to grow on me. I thought Adams reaction at the hospital was understandable and realistic, as was Joan’s at the gas station. I felt like that when my father died. And Adam and Joan when Adam comes to opick Joan up - I needed a kleenex, too. So sweet.
StG
not exactly on topic, but does anyone think that Adam looks vaguely like John Cusack? At least while wearing the suit?
Damn.
I had the misfortune to watch this episode right after reading one of the letters from Last Letters Home, a collection of the last letters home from KIA soldiers in Iraq. The letter was from a 38-year-old dad (my age) to his 2 year old son (I have a 2 year old daughter).
So being in that frame of mind, I was bawling like a baby by the end of the episode.
Damn.
I missed about five minutes – and apparently it was the wrong five minutes. Where was Judith and what was she doing when she got stabbed?
twickster - Judith was with friends that went to buy drugs (she called Joan and said she was “buying snacks”).
StG
I thought she said they were buying “X” – i.e. ecstacy. But look at me, with the hip lingo all the kids are using.
Good episode. I was totally caught off guard.
So has Judith died or something?
Yes
I thought this was a very good episode. Very well put together with a terrific ending.
Wow. I’m surprised they did that to a recurring character, even if she was only introduced in the past half dozen episodes.
Now I wish I could watch it but can’t since I don’t have a TV.
Friedman will never be able to look at “Hamlet” again without wincing a little.
Excellent episode. This show just gets better and better.
By no means am I a religious person, but I like the philosophical approach they use when talking to god. No black and white. No death to fags, or stone the adulterers. Hope people in the red states are watching this show.
As far as this particular episode, I think they handled the topic very well, and I can imagine a group of friends out on the porch after this news going through the exact emotions that were presented. Very realistic, and I also want a set of those light-up juggling balls!
Nice going infusing closed-minded politics into a discussion about a fictional TV show, DMark. People in the “red states” aren’t all ignorant fundy fag-haters. Even those who voted for the winner.
Skammer - It could’ve been. That all falls under “drugs” in my lexicon.

Oh oh oh oh oh. I’m going to buy stock in Kleenex now.
Funny, I didn’t feel as sorry for Judith as I did for Joan. Adam was right. Judith was committing suicide a little at a time.
I completely melted when Adam showed up at the door, nice suit and tie, rose in hand, and Kevin playing the Stern Older Brother bit, then clapping him on the shoulder as he left. I was a bit perturbed when Joan answered a phone call in the middle of her date, but when she told Judith she felt like she won a contest, and Adam heard her say that, I thought it was very sweet. I’m also glad that they kissed on the porch before they went inside the house. It kind of ended their date, then the news about Judith didn’t spoil it. (I know it ruined their evening, but the date was “officially” over.)
Did anyone catch the pin DogWalkerGod was wearing in the beginning? It said “I Love Everybody.” (You know that was Amber Tamblyn’s father, right?)
I loved how Luke tried to meet up with Grace at the Anarchist’s meeting, then gave away his shoes, and Grace showed up at the Sci-Fi Movie Schlockfest. Does anyone know what movie they were showing?
Poor Friedman. I think I was crying as much for him as for Joan. I also liked the reference to friends…Judith realized at the hospital that her friends didn’t stay with her, and then when Joan gets home, all her friends are waiting on the porch for her.
I liked how Grace and Luke’s relationship was revealed as an afterthought. No big deal, considering everything else that’s going on. Grace would have liked that.
One question, and remember, I’ve managed to forget all my high school physics, so try not to point and laugh: The man crossing the bridge juggling boxes…doesn’t the force of one of the boxes landing in his hand compensate for the weight of the box up in the air? So he’s still carrying too much weight over the bridge?
Okay, I won’t talk about physics anymore. :o
She was with some other friends buying drugs. It seemed the drug dealer was trying to rob them, so Judith shoves him and he pulls out a knife and stabs her repeatedly.
I liked this episode. A lot. A BUNCH of really good bits, woven into an excellent whole.
Like that Friedman figured out Luke and Grace, and that Grace seemed to be Ok with that (“You do know that if you give us up, you’ll never have children.” “Yeah, I kinda got that.”).
Liked that DoctorGod was “the only doctor that ever cared for [Judith]”.
Liked Helen and Will. Hated Lucy.
Liked the conformity of the anarchists.
Liked DogWalkerGod.
*Ivylass, the movie was “Robot Monster”, one of the all-time worst movies. It deals with an alien invasion, and the alien is a guy in a gorilla suit wearing a deep-sea diving helmet. His base is “one of the more familiar Hollywood caves”, and he has this war-surplus radio set that emits bubbles al la Lawrence Welk. Truly a classic.
See, Lucy(fer) was actually tolerable in this one. She seemed truly horrified that Will’s daughter had been attacked, but I think Will knew it was Judith since Joan was safely on her date with Adam (although did he know Judith borrowed Joan’s clothes?)
Robot Monster, huh? Do you think it’s in the public domain or did Barbara Hall Productions get permission to air it? (Or, horror of horrors, they own it!)
Thanks for the info, all – I figured it was something like that, but I wasn’t sure.
(And ivylass – us musicals fans are a little :dubious: that you describe Russ Tamblyn* as Amber’s father, however factually accurate that may be. )
*scroll down to see the credits for West Side Story and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Are you all talking about TWIN PEAKS’ Doctor Jacoby?
G
I haven’t watched last night’s tape & read all the spoilers… Damn!
Hey, if God can appear, can’t spirits of the dead make occasional appearances?
The dead Mom appeared to hardened skeptic WIll, of all people!
SO maybe Judith could make occasional visits?!? L Maybe as part of Purgatory- er, Celestial Rehab.
Oh, I most certainly know that he is a fine actor in his own right, and I didn’t mean to shortchange him, by referring to him as Amber’s dad.
It was just nice to note the familial relationship, was all.
