Joan of Arcadia 4/8, or Life Goes On

I think most of us are still reeling from Adam’s betrayal last week, and certainly Deborah who recaps the show for TWoP was most upset (although I think she feels more betrayed by the writing, which was partially redeemed by the kick-ass young actors) but we must move on.

In tonight’s episode, God urges Joan to do some spring-cleaning, and there’s some sort of scandal with the guidance counselor.

Too bad it’s not Price.

Well, that was different.

I knew that Tutman hadn’t slept with Chelsea. He didn’t come across as that stupid, and he did mention she was a troubled student.

Very cool to see Lishack up close and personal. And dayum, but she’s cute!

No police story! Wooohooo!

Helen is being a bit of a jerk. I hope Will gets her back on the straight and narrow. And for Og’s sake, woman, let your children do laundry!

How much you want to bet Lilly is still a virgin?

I liked the returning of the gifts at the end. Adam is so sad, realizing what he threw away, and I’m glad he got to keep a part of Joan. And Joan is not unwilling to overlook the good times, she she got to keep part of him. And the picture of the jail cell door just broke my heart.

Good stuff here. Luke swaggering. Grace a la Muffy. Joan taking an interest in what happens to other people. Will (“Listen to the priest”). Helen losing it. Price acting like a professional (never thought I’d say THAT) school administrator. Lischack literally throwing herself at newly grown-up Tuchman. Nice resolution between Joan and Adam - or at least the beginnings of same. GodFella (one of my favorites).

Couldn’t get too excited about Kevin and Lily for some odd reason.

Becky Wahlstrom is, what, 29? Do they paint on a couple of acne spots for close-ups?

Cute? Nah, she’s hot! The whole cracking the pointer thing: rrrOWrrrrrrr.

I forgot about Grace turning preppie. It was actually hard for me to look at her, she looked so icky with the headband and all.

Cheers to Becky Wahlstrom for bringing such life to Grace that I cringed when she came in wearing ballerina slippers and pedal pushers. My eyes! My eyes!

No, she’s not! (Goes zipping over to imdb.com)

 Yes, she is! Either she’s got a babyface or that is some heavy duty makeup there.

And Michael Welch is 17! How is that not child exploitation when they make out in the biology closet?

I need to go bleach my brain.

BTW, Amber Tamblyn is 21.

(Interesting bit of trivia, both Welch and Wahlstrom appeared in Star Trek, Michael in Insurrection and Becky in an episode of Enterprise.)

And was Amber the murdered girl in The Ring?

It’s been quite a while since this show placed first in its time slot. What are people watching instead?

I liked the lightness of this episode. A bit of relief from the ceaseless angst. Looks like there’ll be plenty more of that next week.

No. She was the cousin/niece who died after watching the tape at the beginning of the movie.

Am I the only one who is losing interest in the show? It was a lot more appealing the first season :frowning: I keep watching, hoping it will get really good again, but…

A little kvetching to start things off:

Spiritual spinach in your teeth…?!?

Also, God didn’t pay for the T.S. Elliot book. I don’t record episodes, but I’m pretty sure He walked out with it! What’s that? Holy Spirit discount?

I thought recognized that scene, but I honestly didn’t know this was a re-run. Now I feel really stupid!

…or not? I’m so confused.

Does everyone else already know what’s happening except me? (And people who go don’t work weekends?)

God’s done this before. As Cute Guy God told Joan, “Technically, everything is mine,” so it’s not a continuity error for him to walk out without paying.

Also, this was a new episode. Are you confused about somethign?

Durnitall, I missed this one. Will have to catch it on the rerun, but I am enjoying reading all the posts.

Pretty much by default… but in particular:

I could have sworn I’d seen this before. It might have been something similar from when I watched more sporadically.

When you wrote: I forgot about…, I thought maybe this was a re-run. That made me wonder if I was being really stupid in “predicting” that Joan and Adam would get back togather.

I was more curious about Jason’s “competence.” Sure, he can do the ‘pull-my-finger’ trick, but have they already dealt with the sexual issues surrounding his paralysis?

:smack:

I’m guessing Jason is just fine, it’s Kevin I’m curious about!

As long as I’m here:

That’s is an interesting position for the writers to take. I guess I should re-read Job before I criticize!

So GodFella tells Joan she has to resolve things with Adam, telling her that “It’s a big ugly stain on your carpet”.

Wasn’t the problem that the stain was on somebody else’s carpet?

When I said “I forgot” I meant that particular scene in this show. Grace did dress up for her bat mitzvah, maybe that’s what you’re thinking about?

I believe it’s been implied that Kevin “can.” He said as much to Beth when they were trying to get back together.

Yeah, this was a good one. My favorite line, when Helen went to Will’s workplace. “Help me. I’m a man.” Poor Will.

When Joan was gathering up stuff she got from Adam, I was afraid she was going to tear it up or burn it. The past, when nice, is good to remember.

I’d believe that Lilly is a virgin. Kevin is still thinking like a high school jock/jerk. It will be interesting to see where that story line goes.

I never understood that. How can you remember a past fondly when it ended in such a disaster?

I got the sense that Lilly had been raped or molested. She didn’t seem to me to be just naive about sex, but rather a bit terrified about it.

By focusing on the good, and letting bygones be bygones. I had a two-year relationship twenty-five years ago that ended badly (she done me wrong, was unfaithful, etc.), but not a day goes by that I don’t think fondly of the good times we had.
