So yesterday I sent in a resume for a position that looked interesting. Part of the position involves customer service. I have a great deal of customer service experience but it was a while ago, and it’s not relevant to anything I’ve been doing lately, so I left it off the resume that I usually use.
Unfortunately I forgot to put it back on when I applied for this position. But the position also calls for admin skills, which I have, but have not demonstrated by this stupidity !
So, the question: Is it better (at this point) to
(a) let them keep the resume without customer service experience on it or
(b) admit my mistake and send them a new one?
Send another one. You don’t want to give them any excuse to eliminate you. They are probably getting lots of responses in the current climate and you don’t want to be seen as lacking in a key area.
Also, if you didn’t include an individually tailored cover letter with your resume, now’s your chance.
yep, I included it. I was also asked to call and leave a message saying “I’ve e-mailed a resume” which I haven’t done yet - I may call and tell them to disregard the first one.
Wouldn’t it be enough to eliminate me that I sent them a resume without the relevant experience on it? … hope not !
