Job seekers - what does your daily schedule look like?

Just curious. I remember being told a long, long time ago that you would always do your best job search if you got up, showered and dressed like you were going to work. So I’m wondering what other job seekers (past or present) do during the course of their day.

Here’s my schedule:

6:30 a.m. - get up, start getting the kids ready for school

7:15 a.m. - kids leave, I have some coffee and change to work out

9:15 a.m. - done working out. Shower and read the news and new and proposed legislation to make sure I stay relevant. Correspond with contacts at various companies (I don’t stalk them every single day, but try to space out contacts).

11:30/12 - lunch

12:30 - research likely targets & send resumes to companies at which I don’t have contacts and/or renew contacts with recruiters who do (often involves providing recruiters with recommendations on people who might fit criteria they’re looking for after contacting said person - you have to give to get)

2:30 - do some household crap and/or errands

3:30 - check e-mail, check schedule for next day/week, organize thoughts for next day of searching, review my applications (I have a spreadsheet) to determine whether I’ve gotten responses or need to update and sometimes a last-minute resume submission if requested by a recruiter or I find something I really want and won’t be able to get off my mind until I apply

4:30 - leave to get kids

Daily schedule will vary depending upon meeting with recruiters/search firms and networking events - I try to talk to people as much as possible or I’ll become a hermit.

Not looking right now, but in this last bout and take into account I’m a morning person:

  • get out of bed at 5am-ish. Take care of basic physical needs. Sit down at computer. Check email. Check job-search sites being used. Answer any relevant ads. Do it 7 days/week, as apparently some people haven’t heard of Sundays.

  • around 8ish, get dressed. Rest of the day as any other day I don’t have to work, until

  • 6pm-ish, second round of email and job-sites, followed by business as usual.

Plus any calls I got and responses to them. Most calls involve a follow-up email; I prefer agents who start with email, but for some reason a large amount believe in “the personal touch”. Many of the agents don’t bother ask “is this a good time” or completely disregard the answer - I’ve had conversations where my side was “hello, I’m sorry but this is a really bad time as I’m on my way to a meeting… please send me the details by email and I’ll write back… this is a very bad time, I can’t talk now… bye” - and then switch off the phone, because they just don’t grok “not now!” It’s none of their business whether the meeting happens to be with the hairdresser :stuck_out_tongue:
