Medical experiments. Some of them pay handsomely.
Taxi-cab license. No kidding. It worked great for me in college.
i second medical experiments. the healthy patient ones are for the last stages of testing just before they market or re-market the product. they mostly are looking for optimum dosage at that point.
did one recently that was 4 weekends spent at the facility for $1,100. signed up for one in the spring for $2,250. i’ll use vacatation time for that one. no taxes are taken out & for smaller amounts you are often paid cash. they will accept smokers on many experiments but no substance abuse at all.
there is also the altruism factor.
If your buddy is presentable and quick on his feet, he might do OK as a waiter. It isn’t the greatest job in the world, but you have cash in your pocket every night. As I recall, that was very important to me in college.
Die before working in retail.

I waited tables through college. I think everyone ought to wait tables once in their lives, it definately teaches humility. The job sucks, but there are upsides, as well. The money in your pocket every night is one. Another- you make your own hours. You can work as little or as much as you like, and almost everyone you work with is in the same situation (college students), so you make a lot of friends. Two pieces of advice - never work lunches (less tip money for more work), and only work in a restaurant which serves alcohol.
