Jobs/careers you think you'd be good at.

Pawn shop owner.

I realize that this is a career dealing with people that are down and out and needing quick cash and that is ok by me, but I like to think of it as a treasure trove.

**Antique’s **
I love antiquing. Especially 30-40’s stuff.

Resale shop owner
see above reasons.

Lawyer: I’m good at making arguments and sounding convincing; also, I’m pretty good at looking at a group of people (i.e. a jury) and figuring out what would best convince them of something. Also, I figure that I have to have some talent to have been selected as one of a small group of people to go on to the next round of a Model Judiciary program (mock trials).

Corporate Lawyer I like arguing and I am morally indiferent. As long as I get paid big $$$, I’d be happy to handle that lawsuit for you.

International Superspy - What’s not to like - lots of gadgets, exotic travel, sleeping with hot women, drinking on the job, and the licence to kill anyone who looks at me cockeyed.

As far as I know, those are the two big requirements for that position.

Personally, I always thought I would be a good lab tech. Oh, wait a minute…

Also I yearn to be an investment banker or venture capitalist. All that money, nothing to do but spend it…

Oh, and brewer. I know I would be good at it, but it doesn’t pay enough to support the lifestyle to which I am accustomed. :frowning:

Sitting on my backside, listening to music and daydreaming.
Can anyone come up with a job that fits in with that?
I think I would be very good at it!

groupie for the Dixie chicks?

I think i would make a good social psychologist. I love learning how society works, and how individuals relate to it.

Mattress tester / Beer taster.

Photographer. I’m pretty good at it. I’m just not sure how to get the right kind of photography job for me . . . really, photography and I are a whole thread. I can very easily see myself working with models–fashion photography, and the like. I can also see myself out and about doing National Geographic type stuff in the Amazon or Congo. Perhaps there will some day be an Ask The Photographer or Photojournalist thread.

Mortician. I like the quiet. I think I could handle all the death.

Certain kinds of monkhood in certain religions. Again, I like the quiet.

Rock star (except I really don’t sing well enough to do it on stage).

Certain jobs in the porn industry. Probably not in front of the camera, though.

Perpetual college student (I’m sort of doing that now).

I could teach certain subjects . . . world lit, perhaps.

I would be an excellent priest if it weren’t for the celebacy thing and the fact that I’m no longer a Christian. But really, I like religion. I’m a good public speaker. I really like helping people. I don’t have a lot of business training, but I think I could run a small or medium sized church. I also like the atmosphere in some of the bigger and older churches and cathederals. Yup, if it weren’t for the sexual restrictions and the requirement that one believe in Jesus Christ and everything, I would be a Roman Catholic priest and I would be extremely good at it.

I could be a psychologist, but only for certain kinds of people with certain kinds of problems. I also have reason to believe that I would make a good mental patient.

Dictator

David Letterman replacement Now that he’s back in the hospital, CBS is quietly auditioning for a backup.

I think I’d make a good documentary filmmaker. Or a hostage negotiator.

I have a feeling that I would make a half-decent actor. I’ve never acted in anything beyond skits for school, but I think I could do well if I took a few acting classes. I absolutely love to perform (I used to dance, now I play music), so it’s more a matter of experience. And training.

Otherwise, I would absolutely love to be in some sort of research position related to psychology. The subject is fascinating to me and researching my interests has been a long-standing hobby of mine.

Last night I watched Stalingrad (a German film) and A Bridge Too Far. Friday night I watched Das Boot.

These films inspired me to think that what I might actually enjoy doing would be being the proprietor of a company that produces odd ancient vehicles for the movies.

Creating a dozen faux T-34s appeals to me. We wouldn’t have to have an original; we could create a new B-29. Ah, and the Stormoviks.

And the old cars and trucks. Fiberglass is our friend. Hitler’s Mercedes - sure, why not?

Sure, I know reality would include budgets, bookkeeping and payroll taxes, but that’s part and parcel of any business endeavor. Were it successful, I’d probably have to maintain some sort of staff full of goofy-ass creative people, and that would keep the office atmosphere alive.

Need a Stuka?

Marketing - I’m very creative and I"d love the opportunity to make commercials more enjoyable. I also happen to have a degree in it but I couldn’t seem to find a job.

Priest - no, I’m not a christian but I do have the celibacy thing down (unfortunately). Actually, a buddhist monk would be a better fit - but it isn’t really a career, it’s more like a lifestyle.

Movie Reviewer - I love movies and I see every one of them when they come out in theatres anyhow so I may as well write what I think about them.

I’m a good actor and storyteller, so I think I’d be a good TOUR GUIDE–especially if my venue was a cavern or a creaky old castle or manor home. Every stalagmite would have a name, and every household object, no mattter how mundane, its legend. (“And this. ladies and gentleman, is the very letter opener that Lady Penelope used to defend her honor from mad King George III!”)

Monk - I’ve always wanted to learn to kickass in a enlightened manner.

Gizmo Tester for Men’s Magazine <sigh> They get all the fancy toys…

Movie Props Manager Weee!! More toys!

Lighthouse keeper
Pygmy goat rancher
wine taster

greeting card editor
rare book dealer
talent agent
condom/sponge manufacturer

Personal stylist- I love looking in peoples closets and tweaking their looks.

Professional party guest: bring on the drinks

script editor for Madonna- someone please help her or keep all scripts away from her

Destructive Tester – You know, those guys whose job it is to knock the crap out of products to test how safe they are and how long they last? I’d be putting in overtime every night at a job like that.

Librarian – Worked as an cataloging and acquisitions assistant for a few years when I was in college and really enjoyed it. I could see myself being pretty good at that.

Movie review & acquisition for a video distributor – This is one that I got offered last year and almost took (although I’m quite happy where I ended up instead). It was a South American-based distributor that bought the rights to B-grade movies for release around the world. My job would have been to watch crappy movies all day and decide whether they would sell in Japan. Heaven.
