Except the actual timeline doesn’t support that narrative at all. Alabama passed its abortion law on May 15th. Mississippi passed its ban on the 21st. Almost all the new abortion laws were passed in May. Biden still supported the Hyde amendment in early June, until he started getting raked over the coals on it by other candidates, at which point he executed a hairpin turn on the subject.

It was 100% a political calculation.

Who cares if Biden changes his mind to get votes – that’s actually a reason to vote for him and not against him.

I think Biden’s pretty solid in the minority community. Of the potential weaknesses that you mentioned, there’s only one that I agree with and believe it would be lethal if it emerges as a campaign issue, and that’s his age. If he has a few debate appearances in which he delivers sloppy responses or appears confused and forgetful, or even just plain tired and lacking in stamina, that could be a real problem.

Yeah, that’s pretty ridiculous. Biden has his problems, no doubt, but he is an entirely different politician from Hillary and entirely different baggage.

I’d also add that it remains to be seen what kind of campaign Biden’s team runs. One thing that’s clear already is that Elizabeth Warren knows how to campaign. When she says she’s got a plan for that, she ain’t bullshittin’.

I’m honestly at a loss to understand this mass delusion among Democrats that Warren would be a good nominee (I see it not just online but at my local DFL meetings as well). Do I need to remind you guys about her incredibly weak numbers in Massachusetts? Plus, just look at her, listen to her talk. This is serious business–we need to beat Trump, not get lured into rewarding the candidate who best loads up the Christmas tree!
