Joe Clark in Gay Pride Parade - Fred Phelps Outraged - Ho hum.

You’re welcome, Baker. It does seem a bit disingenuous on their part - the Mounties can’t just arrest someone when they step off the plane (we do have a Charter of Rightsafter all), and sexual orientation is not one of the protected grounds in the Canadian Criminal Code offence of promoting hatred (see section 319), so I’m not sure how they would get thrown in jail, short of a breach of the peace or some such thing.

If you do get a letter published, please feel free to e-mail me to let me know - I’d be curious to see it.

All it would take would be a few anonymous calls from random pay phones claiming that he was smuggling drugs up his butt. Inquiring minds want to know if he would have to go through a second anal probe with the RCMP after already bending over at immigration.

Hi there featherlou… nice to see that someone else from Calgary Centre hangs out here too… but I have to take issue with you.

I am not impressed with Mr. Joey-come-lately. If he were such a friend of the lesbian and gay community, why didn’t he speak out for us during his tenure either as Prime Minister or as a senior cabinet minister under Mulroney?

I can’t say that I was heartbroken to see that Reform/Alliance bastard Lowther defeated in the last election, but let’s be real, we sent a toilet-trained reactionary to Ottawa in his place – now, I will admit that a toilet-trained reactionary is better than a “spread the newspaper on the carpet, here comes Lowther” kind of reactionary… but only in terms of protecting the flooring.

Perhaps Joey-come-lately has had a change of heart – I guess it could happen. I will believe it when he issues a statement binding his party to full inclusion of equal rights for the lesbian and gay community in all federal legislation. I will believe it when he stands up to Klein and tells him that his (Klein’s) threats to invoke the notwithstanding clause of the constitution over the possibility of gay marriage is anti-democratic and that Joey will be in the trenches with the rest of us fighting Klein.

Until then, I am going to nurse my suspicion that Joey is little more than an opportunist who did a cost benefit analysis and decided that courting the so-called “gay vote” paid bigger dividends than courting the Reform/Alliance neanderthal vote. Until then, to me, his participation in the Pride march looks pretty much the equivalent of kissing babies.

Don’t you have laws against being a hoser?

Yeah. It’s called the Mackenzie Act of 1981.

We take away your toque.

Hijack:

Wow, there’s a lot of Calgary Centre people here! (Including myself) What the hell, how about a Calgary Centre Dope fest (or a CCDF, if you will)

Joe Clark let me in a very long airport line when I was running extremely late for a plane (I would have missed it otherwise)That’s my big brush with celebrity. How sad.
