Joe Rogan is really funny. Wow

I used to watch News Radio and really liked it. That’s really the only place I ever knew him from. I actually had no idea until a few months ago that he was a stand-up, and that he started in Boston.

I started listening now and then to his Podcast and enjoyed it. It was from there that I learned he was a stand-up, then I faintly remembered the news of him and Carlos Mencia and Mencia’s alleged joke stealing (funny how the brain can pull info from years past and process it).

So now I have spent the past few hours listening to his bits on YouTube. This guy is freak’n hilarious! He’s also smart!

Like here and here.

Writing this makes me wonder if there is a comedian thread on the SDMB (I’ll search later). There is nothing I love more than good comedy.

Joe Rogan can be hilarious, but he’s also a nut-job. I went to a comedy show and he spent the whole time talking about how illegal drugs are good for you. It was creepy, and not funny. That’s what’s good about recordings though, if it’s crap you can just move on to the next one.

Never seen him live, but his stand up albums are exceptional. Not my favorite, but he’s right up there.

He actually does a bit in one bemoaning the fact that due to Fear Factor, nobody actually knew he was a comedian anymore.

I can’t speak for his comedy, but I once saw a video where he confronts Lydia Lunch for being an enormous bitch, or rather he dismisses her accusations of sexism and machismo by calling her out for being an enormous bitch, and I thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time because seriously fuck Lydia Lunch.

If I remember right, he buys into a lot of the “we didn’t really land on the moon” conspiracy theory. I remember Penn Jillette interviewing him on Penn Radio a few times. Apart from that bit of nuttiness though he seems like a pretty funny guy in general.

I think this would be better in Cafe Society, funnily enough, so I’m going to move it thither.

twickster, MPSIMS mod

I have to admire the guy’s career instincts.

  1. Part of a great sitcom - NewsRadio
  2. Host of a hugely successful reality show - Fear Factor
  3. Commentator on a hugely successful upcoming sport - UFC

The guy essentially hasn’t made a wrong move. I understand he made a TON of money for Fear Factor.

Yes. Yes, he is funny. I discovered him accidentally when The Laugh Factory was sold out for a Bob Saget show. Bob-fucking-Saget, who is not funny, by the way. Yes, I know, but his stand up is totally different from Full House, and you swear it’s hilarious, and bla bla bla. Wrong. Listening to Danny Tanner say the f-word over and over again isn’t funny. I am not laughing because, oh, the incongruity! Bob Saget, you are not funny, and I hate you.

So anyway, The Laugh Factory was sold out, so we went down to the Comedy Store and saw Joe Rogan was headlining. “Is that the guy from Fear Factor?” We didn’t really want to see the guy from Fear Factor, but the cover was $10, so we just went in.

That was 2001, and I’ve been sold since.

I think so. He’s a conspiracy theory kind of guy.

I think also is a big time JFK conspiracy theory person.

I have no idea if he’s gotten into the 9/11 conspiracy camp. I hope not.

More accurately, I think, he seems to be immune to wrong moves. He was pretty closely involved in the whole scummy-as-hell “Girls Gone Wild” thing as a host/party animal/agent provocateur.

Yeah, that was good (it’s on Youtube). I’m of two minds about Rogan, because while I’m leery of his involvement in GGW, I also think he’s quite smart and funny. I expected to see a couple of raging douchebags screaming at each other, but Rogan pretty thoroughly excoriated Lydia Lunch in a reasonable manner, given her behavior.

I could never get past Joe Rogan’s nails-on-chalkboard nasaly high pitched voice. The more excited he gets the higher it goes
It reminds me of Jim Carey’s “you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?”

He is pretty funny. I didn’t realize the guy from Fear Factor did comedy. Huh.

This is exactly how I felt after discovering Eugene Mirman. I love the totally despised Tim & Eric, and they made a video called “Fuck you Eugene Mirman” for outranking them in some poll of some sort. Tim & Eric were #10, and Eugene Mirman was #9. So I thought to myself, “Self, a sizeable number of people think this guy is funnier than Tim & Eric? I’ve got to see this!”

He’s freakin’ hilarious. So glad I found out about him.

Thanks for the recommendation. He’s pretty good.
