Unfortunately, between laundry, church, groceries, soccer, hanging curtain rods, and my D&D group, I did not have a chance to watch. I’m going to have to wait until Friday.
How did you watch it? Netflix says it’s being released an April 14.
There was a streaming preview for Kickstarter backers on Sunday.
What Maus said – all backers got to watch Ep1101 on Sunday, and starting this morning all $85+ backers got access to the rest of the season.
I watched about a half-hour of 1102 over breakfast, and it was fricking golden. I’m now cursing the fact that it’s a perfect day outside. A nice thunderstorm would’ve kept in my couch bubble.
Yes - I had forgotten that the whole thing would start streaming today. I watched episode 1. Tom Servo’s voice sounds odd, but I’ll get used to it.
Agreed. Tom and Jonah sound a bit too similar.
From what I understand, the voices become more distinct as the season goes on.
All episodes are live on Netflix right now. I’ll watch the first one tonight.
The Intro.
Looks like I’ll be mowing the lawn, doing the dishes and feeding the animals next week.
That looks very nice indeed. I quite enjoyed that.
When My Beloved asks me what I’ll be doing this weekend, I’ll say
“I’ll be watching cheesy movies,
The worst I can find.
You may control what I eat or drink
But that monitor is mine.”
The Every Nation Has a Monster rap in episode 1 is top-notch.
Watching the first one right now.
I could not stop smiling during the entire opening.
The riffs are pretty good. Tom Servo’s voice is taking some getting used to.
The Ukulele Lady complained “They’re not commenting enough!” I said these damn Danish actors don’t leave enough space between their lines.
To be fair, we watched Werewolf last night, one of the funniest episodes of the Mike era, tough competition. “Hang on – EVERYONE! Up one shirt size!”
And yes, the new voices will take some getting used to.
Is…is that Yeoman Rand?
Wow! I’m suitably impressed. Of course, I’ve been a MST3K fanboy for about 28 years, but still … wow!
I don’t think it was but I could be wrong. That WAS Wil though right?
My 30 minute in, gotta go to sleep review: I feel like some layups were missed, but i did laugh a few times. And that song was done in one take. Very well done. I liked what I saw for the most part.
Assuming you mean the woman beside Wil Wheaton in the opening, it was Erin Gray (Wilma Deering from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century). Grace Lee Whitney, who played Yeoman Rand, passed away two years ago.
I’ve watched the first two episodes and here are my thoughts:
-
I’m having severe “wrong sounding Muppets” syndrome. The voices are throwing me, and while I may get used to them, I just don’t think they’re distinct enough. (Like someone else said, it even gets hard to tell which one is talking sometimes)
-
It FEELS scripted, and the other two versions did not. I think that’s partly down to Mike and Joel being funnier and having more distinct characters, and partly due to newness. I’ll concede that this part may improve down the line.
-
The Mads have never been my favorite part of the show, and that continues to be true. Again, it feels really scripted and forced.
-
The silhouettes are too small. A silly thing, but somehow important.
-
Gypsy’s drop-ins (literally) add nothing. Her lines aren’t funny, and again they’ve gone with an extremely generic voice. The ‘Midwestern women have music in their voices’ line was funny, but she has zero accent.
I think that’s it, so far.
-
I also felt there was a lack of laughing a little at each others jokes. I think i heard some chuckling once in ep 1. I don’t want TOO much but laughing at each other helps a little.
-
Agreed. It’s not silly. It’s needed to notice the ‘interacting with the film’ jokes.
But again, I quite liked ep 1.
Listen closely to the music the band is playing on the “commercial bumpers”–it seems to be classic MST3K tunes! I think I just recognized “The Canada Song.”
