I’m glad there are people chiming in already for Johanna, because otherwise this thread would make me go a little batshit crazy myself.

First off, Big Red Username, fuck a whole bunch of you. Did you ever get your clit pierced, btw? Some people definitely think shooting a metal rod into one’s genitals is more than a little fucking loony. You’ve got mental illness in your family and possibly in yourself, so I guess you better sign up for the batshit list too, huh.
You saw somebody had Johanna down so you decided to come along and give her a kick, because it’s funny when people are different, and it’s even funnier when people who are different are scorned and abused. You twitty fucking nitwit, go back to browsing Hot or Not and chime in next time you have something a little less fucking inane to add to the conversation.

Okay, I feel a little better now. Johanna often has interesting things to offer, even - especially - on the subjects of gender and women’s issues. She is informed, intelligent, articulate, and totally unabashed about who she is.

In that, she is not unlike many other Dopers here, except that what they don’t hesitate to mention is, say, a child, or membership in a majority religion, or an interest in model trains. Those things are “sane” so it’s okay to talk about them pretty much unchecked. Start showing signs of being openly deviant and you get Pitted for shoving it, as lissener so aptly put it, in everyone’s face.

Well, fuck that, and fuck the OP, I’m not even going to bother to go back and see who it was, because that’s how little I think of it. Christ, I wish we had a lot more Johannas around here, and a lot fewer lameoid Pitters whining that the Dope’s all full of freaks and queers these days. She made it clear that she doesn’t dislike Johanna, understands that there’s a period of, shall we say, enjoying the new aspect of one’s identity to the fullest, but that she thinks it’s time for Johanna to stop applying her gender-focus to unrelated things.

In fact, it is quite clear to me that kimera is in fact quite pro-transsexual. I believe she is quite good friends with the poster Azadeh, a MTF transsexual. I have never talked to someone who was non-trans, yet so supporting of them, as I have kimera.

I’m not so much accusing anybody of being “anti-transsexuals” as I am accusing them of being pro-boring homogeny. I also made it clear that I don’t give a fuck what she made clear, because I disagree that Johanna needs to “stop applying her gender-focus” whatever the fuck that means - so much so that I think accusing her of doing it is a sign that the accuser is triggering off of something else. Johanna’s stuff is standing out where another person’s wouldn’t because it’s not “normal”.

And everybody who wants to pretend that nobody has any such kind of invisible bias, that you’re only a bigot if you carry a membership card, is ignorant and naive.

And frankly, just because people can be in influenced by their own aesthetic values, doesn’t mean that that’s the reason for just about EVER opinion they put forth. I seriously doubt posters are as one dimensional as you’d like to think.

Transgenderedness is a real issue. If it doesn’t belong in a discussion of to what extent sex and gender are social constructs, where in the fuck does it belong?

Cthiax, I’m willing to bet that GYBRFE suggested that Johanna’s stated belief system might be commonly found in a mental institution not because GYBRFE hates transsexuals (although she might, I don’t know), but because, even considering that religion is a subject that brings out illogic like nothing else, Johanna’s belief system is simply loonie. Anyone who states that they spend time seriously attempting to “witch” themselves beautiful, to say nothing of claiming to be part of an ancient priestess cult described in unrealistically idyllic terms that never existed in the real world, should not expect to be taken too seriously.

Polycarp, I do agree with you about that, and I don’t think that thread was the best example, although there is a real difference between intersex issues and transgender issues - the OP wasn’t asking about gender, he was asking about sex. Nevertheless, to me, this falls in the normal realm of GQ tangents.

I still think the general point the OP made holds, but I want to make it clear that I personally don’t feel it deserved a pitting. The OP was clear and kind enough, but Pit threads against individuals invariably turn ugly, and I don’t think Johanna deserves that.

That’s called “having a differing opinion.” It’s possible to do that without projectile-vomiting all over the person/people with whom you disagree.

This is, again, opinion. As has been asked, were people irritated at Evil Captor for being different … or for bringing the concept of bd/sm into threads to which it had NO relation? I’m positive it is the latter concept being pitted here. As has been demonstrated, kimera is not transgendered-unfriendly and is, in fact, quite open-minded and relaxed about the concept.

You may be seeing persecution where none exists. Your posts do not suggest that you have been reading for comprehension.
