John Carter of Mars News

Here’s the cover the guy did. The album appears to have been released in 2005.

Seems to be at least the second remaster of a 1982 album.

They’ve put out a few completely new albums since 1990, and they’ve almost all been universally panned. Someone here once bitched that Ian needed to pay more attention to the songs he was writing than the salmon farm he was running.

Jethro Tull is about to tour with Anoushka Shankar.

Wow, this is one serious hijack.

I saw them this summer, at the Music Fest, Bethleham, PA. They were great. The last time I saw them was two years in row, late 70’s, Boston Garden.

The only song they missed this summer was Crosseyed Mary.

Did he balance on one wheel when he played the flute?

Not seen them since, um, 1974(?) but they played here only a few months ago, iirc. Kind of meant to go see them, but didn’t. It might have been an* Aqualung* anniversary tour or something.

Agree – so long as the concept is updated.

I saw a casting call today for Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter’s teenage nephew and “the very first Comic-Con fanboy.”

Taylor Kitsch from Friday Night Lights is playing John Carter. Willem Dafoe signed on to play Tars Tarkas.

Did you see who’s listed as writing the screenplay? Novelist Michael Chabon.

I don’t really care how they do the harnesses. I want to know how they do the banths. I like Gino d’Achille’s version:

The d’Achille cover is the one with the flat-chested chick in a gold bikini, with the red sky in the background.

I like it because it doesn’t really look anything like a terrestrial lion, and yet, if you were trying to describe it to someone who had never seen one, you might use “lion” as a metaphor.

Oh that photo brings back memories. The copy of Thuvia I swiped from my Dad’s bookshelf & read was the one at upper left, with the ruined city.
