Class act John Edwards’ former aide (the one who claimed that Edwards’ mistress’ baby was really his, not Edwards’) now says (in a book he is shopping around) that John Edwards is indeed the father of Rielle Hunters child, and that when Elizabeth Edwards finally!!! gets around from dying from cancer already, Edwards and Hunter will wed, and they want Dave Matthews Band to be the musical entertainment for the joyous occasion…
I dont know why I found this noteworthy, but I am sure that DMB is going to throw down one hell of a tight, funky set for the gig.
You mean some guy I never heard of… with a tenuous connection… to someone who made the news based on a freak combination of public prominence and personal indiscretion… is trying to milk that tenuous connection… for MONEY?

They might be in for a long wait. I have known of people who lived with breast cancer mets to the bones (which is apparently the kind of cancer that Elizabeth Edwards had when she was diagnosed) for 10 years. Breast cancer spreading to the bones first tends to be less aggressive than breast cancer that spreads to the internal organs initially.
I am prone to thinking all politicians are sociopaths and narcissists. The nature of the work just attracts that sort of person. Still, I hesitate to be too judgemental about John because I can easily imagine situations where they might have been having marital problems before all this and he just did not have the good fortune to have made the split official before the terrible news of her diagnosis hit. Then what do you do? You can’t force yourself to love someone just because they have an unfortunate diagnosis, yet you look like a horrible person if you leave them at a time like that. With a disease like this you could end up living another decade with this person you don’t love anymore before they die of the disease. You have no way of knowing when or if you can start a new life of your own if you stand by them. That would be a lousy situation to be in. I have never been married and I hope when I do get married I am in love with that person for life. However, I think we’ve all had exes that we can imagine ourselves being unhappy to have to stick with because of a tragic turn of events making the breakup a lot more complicated.
Actually what the article said was that Young claims that Edward told his mistress that to calm her down one time when she was upset. Sounded to me like what every cheating husband tells his gullible girlfriend to keep her happy–“it’s not the right time for me to divorce right now, baby, but someday I will and we’ll get married! It’ll be beautiful, just you and me on a beach in Waikiki…” Yeah, right. Edwards won’t marry that woman, not in a million years, and he never intended to. By the time his wife dies, he’ll be on to some other poor idiot who believes him.
This, to me, is the most arrogant part of the story. It had already been broken in 2007, albeit by the National Enquirer. There is no way that it would not have hit the main stream media if he had been nominated. Not just the affair, but paying to cover it up. What was he thinking?
He was willing to destroy an almost certain victory for his party in the presidential race simply due to his unbridled hubris. We’re damn lucky such a man did not become President.
Yep; Democrats should be livid at Edwards (and evidently they are)–if his political career revives, I will be very surprised. Affairs are survivable if handled correctly; affairs and money while a wife is dying of cancer and one is running for president, not so much.
Exactly the way I feel. He should never get anywhere near politics again. Let him go write books or something. Books I won’t be buying, or reading, because fuck that guy.
Good lord, can you imagine how much damage a person could do if he was a politician and told his electorate what they wanted to hear to calm them down?
But John Edwards was washed up long before this. I remember watching polls on CNN and MSNBC, immediately after his wife came out and told about her cancer and said her husband should keep running.
His popularity went south and the numbers indicated that people, women especially thought he should quit running and be with his wife.
So he lost any chance right at that point, as people thought he was a jerk for continuing to run, even without the whole affair thing
Is Young really that credible? For the sake of Edwards’ campaign, he was willing to pretend he was Hunter’s lover and the father her baby when it was clear all along that he wasn’t, and now he’s selling his story in a book. Seriously, who would trust a word this guy says?
