John Entwhistle of the Who dead at 57.

This is getting to be kind of regular lately.

Link?

If so, this is sad news, and just another one in the march of time.

Right here.

Damn. That is really sad.

My condolences to his loved ones.

:frowning:

fuck.

Would that I had the words. The man was one of the best electric bassists ever–ranking with McCartney, Jordan, Pastorius, and the like. We’ve lost another great one.

rats.

Damn, damn, damn.

:frowning:

Yes, one of the greatest has been lost. Keep his family in your thoughts.

Damn, I saw the Who in 1980, and my brother told me stories about when he saw the Who in 1968.

Wonder what’s going to happen with their summer tour now.

wow, I picked the wrong time to come back to the boards

just reminds me that life is temporary and I’m always getting older

live it up, folks

I saw John and Pete and Roger the last time they toured. Took my 15 year old son, paid top buck for 12th row floor. John blew the place away with his solo during 5:15. I was just listening to the Isle of Wight CD on the way home tonight before I heard the news, thinking about taking both sons on this tour. Not gonna happen.

Pete once said that the reason the Who were so good was because they had two lead guitarists, just one of them had 4 strings.

John, give my regards to Keith…

Doc’s out…

Umm, no disrespect to him as a singer, songwriter, showman, nice guy etc, but Jordan, Pastorius, Entwhistle and McCartney?!

Please tell me are not talking about Paul?

Thanks for the great music!
God speed, John…

I like the Who’s music, though I’m not a major fanatic. I mention this because for some reason John Entwhistle’s name popped into my head out of the blue just yesterday, thinking about him as perhaps one of the lesser-known members of the band (Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend seem to be better known) I just thought it was strange that John Entwhistle passed away the day after I thought about his name for the first time in several years.

Well that bites. I figure I will probably never get to see the Who perform now.

:frowning:

The most important thing here is to reflect, for those to whom the Who mattered, on the death of Ox. Their music and contribution to rock n’ roll is legendary, and he held down the bottom while flying on top, too. He will be missed.

As for McCartney - look, I am not a particularly big fan of his, but, speaking as a musician, his innovative bass lines set the standard for pop/rock in the 60’s. Listen to “Drive My Car” as an obvious example. The Beatles were never about flaunting technical virtuousity, but one would be hard-pressed to find a bass player to contributed more to a given song and was so innovative. So, yeah, McCartney.

Fuck. Damn, he was so good. Quadrophenia may have been his best work, particularly Can You See the Real Me?. Rest in peace, John. Keith has another playmate now. Funny that the two who remain are the ones who fought for years. (By the by, no H in Entwistle, although there is one in Townshend).
