I think Cissy is more that just annoying. I’m now convinced that she’s mentally ill.
I agree with AuntiePam and John Mace and am about to lose interest in the show. It’s rather haphazard and deliberately weird for no apparent reason. The advance warnings that “something good will come of all this” has kept my interest, but only up to a point. The characters are turds for the most part and John is more a mannequin than a person. Whatever good will Milch had left over after Deadwood, he’s spending it way too fast for my money. Even Kai, the only one I have any feelings for, is fading fast.
This reeks of Twin Peaks too much to suit me. Even Carnivale was better. HBO had better do something good soon, or I’m dropping them.
Two major things that are keeping me watching.
-
The timeslot. Sunday nights are veg in the front of the TV night for me. There’s nothing against JfC. If it were on any other night, I’m probably not watching.
-
I just like the Milch-style dialogue. I like hearing the Hawaiin speak it. I like hearing Ed O’Neill. I like Ellsworth.
And one minor thing:
- I do have hope that the story will improve, somehow. But I have no idea how it will do that. Last night was dull.
I had to taxi one of my young’uns around last night and got home about twenty minutes after John started. My wife was already asleep and, after a few minutes watching, I just wasn’t compelled to rewind the DVR to watch it from the beginning. I wish HBO would bring Carnivale back. Fuckers!
I like that part too. Except with Cissy – it doesn’t work with her. Maybe I shouldn’t compare her with Trixie. With Trixie, those raging quips sounded natural.
She has one mode: hysterical outrage. Cissy with a gun is just ridiculous. I don’t know how her marriage with Mitch lasted this long, what with her threatening to kill him every SINGLE episode. Maybe all that acid damaged her brain?
Cissy’s the worst character on the show. If the writers calm her down and make her sympathetic (or even just rational), it won’t be believable.
Especially these past two weeks, shoving the reporters around, grabbing a camera, banging on Kai’s trailer, screaming at Mitch and Butchie – and nobody tells her to shut up or shoves back? Unbelievable.
