John Henson Project: it must be funny because he yells a lot

A few weeks ago I indicated that I “Had a Bad Feeling About This”[sup]TM[/sup] show.

Well, I decided to watch it see if it was as bad as the promos promised.

It’s worse.

John makes up for his lack of comedic abilities by yelling everything. He gives a vibe that says: I have a show and you don’t, therefore I AM FUNNY AND YOU WILL LAUGH!! WHAT? YOU’RE NOT LAUGHING AT MY AMAZINGLY FUNNY MATERIAL? THEN YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT!! C’MON, IT’S FUNNY!!!

I couldn’t agree more.

Spike TV is so far good only for two things; Star Trek: TNG and Most Extreme Elimination (I’m sorry, that show is just damn funny). As far as I care, everything else, especially RealTV and The John Henson Project are complete and utter garbage.

I’d have trouble watching a show where the commercials alone make me want to slap the shit out of him.

I actually sat through an episode of “Ten things every guy should do”.
God, it was bad. Beyond bad. It was MTV bad but without the money or production value.

I thought John Henson was really funny on Talk Soup. In fact, I quit watching that show when he left, kinda protest-like. Plus Hal Sparks wasn’t any good, IMO. Since leaving TS, moving on to bigger better things, one presumes, I’ve seen Henson host one really stupid special on one of the Big Three (or maybe Fox), one of the “Best Commercial” things, and now he’s in this. Which, again IMO, is about three big steps below where he was in TS. It’s better for your career to be in a bad show that gets more publicity than in a good show that fewer folks watch? Sad.

I saw three minutes of Henson’s show and that’s enough for me. He is, basically, the gawky, friendless nerd who even the drama club didn’t like because all he’d do is yell bad jokes and act loud and stupid in a pathetic attempt to get attention. I didn’t hear a single funny joke, and even if they had been funny, he can’t tell a joke to save his life.

I agree completely with DaddyTimesTwo. I liked him a lot on Talk Soup, and when he left that I waited to see what he would do next… saw that stupid commercials show, and now… this? Bleh.

Also, from commercials it looks like he has a major gut now, but maybe I’m just seeing things.

What’s disappointing is that much of his “humor” on the show is recycling gags ("Hey Tom!) and his delivery from TS (“It’s our…MAN OF THE WEEK!” - insert slight head wobble here-). The show is just a cheaper and worse written version of The Man Show. I would say dumber, but that gives TMS too much credit.

And yes, shy guy, Henson does have a gut. It was really noticable in a sketch about “urinal etiquette” done as an old-fashioned high school instructional film, which was fitting since the humor barely reached that level. After it ended Henson kept claiming, unconvincingly, he wasn’t really that fat, that he was slouching for the sketch. In more ways than one, Skunkboy, in more ways than one…

Amen. Most Extreme Elimination is the greatest. It’s like MST3K, except funny. Tonight’s best line:

“Looks like those kneepads didn’t help her.”
“How do you think she got in the contest?”

And while we’re bashing Spike TV - JUST LET ME WATCH STAR TREK IN PEACE; quite with the fucking “Stripperella” promos that take up the whole screen while I’m trying to watch. Tonight they covered up part of a scene that was crucial to the plot. That just makes me want to watch Stripperella even less (if that’s possible).

Hey, them’s fightin’ words!
