John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt - Do you know this song?

I first learned the “That’s my name too” instead of the “His name is my name too” version.

We sang “tra la la la la la la” and not “na na na na na na na.”

And we also repeated it down to a whisper then boomed the last round.

This song was a big favorite in my preschool and even at the age of 4, I had enough sense to absolutely detest it. Among other problems, it almost always gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Thanks for ruining my day, SDMB.

Yup.

(Born 1979 Wva)

I know the song. I grew up in northern WV and western PA in the 60s and 70s.

And for another slight variant, we sang la la la la la la la la at the end.

In case anyone is interested, I did like this song in the sense that I could remember it’s lyrics. However, repeating the stanza even once made it stupid. I don’t remember it gradually getting quieter as it repeats. There was some da da da da da da da thing at the end but I don’t really remember it clearly. I thought it’s whole purpose was to annoy adults, but maybe it’s to distract kids to keep them from doing even more annoying things.

Wikipedia credits the song to late 19th - early 20th century German-American vaudeville, though it says the origins are obscure. I find it amusing that there is a Spanish version called “Juan Pedro Pablo de la Mar.”

I’m from Chicago, grew up in the 80s. I know the name of the song, but I’ve never actually heard it before. I just looked it up on Youtube and the tune does not ring any bells.
