Because there is no way on God’s Green Earth that Cheney can play the “aw-shucks, ahm jus’ a good ol’ boy like you folks! you can trust me!” card.

This sounds like the “reporting” of the same people who said in January that Kerry was going to suddenly challenge the results of some precincts in Ohio. It’s not gonna happen and no one’s going to try. And if it was going to happen, I’m thinking some US news organizations might be reporting on it.
They might if the right wing radio picks it up and repeats it enough. Then one major source will report. The white house will comment. Senators will froth. Kerry will deny but the damage is done.

And Kerry’s continual re-election to the Senate from Massachusetts will be assured for as long as he lives. 
Even a longshot attempt at starting impeachment proceedings would get news coverage. News organizations wouldn’t wait for the right-wing chorus to start talking about it.
