John Kerry to call for impeachment of George Bush

al-Jazeera has posted a story saying that Kerry has plans to get the ball rolling on the impeachment process ASAP.

A conviction seems rather unlikely, since they need 2/3 to convict, but still…

Looks like the first paragraph of the story is merely some journalist’s spin on what Kerry said in the second paragraph. Kerry says he’ll attack Bush over the revelations in the memo, take it to Congress, journalist interprets this as a move for impeachment. Wishful thinking.

Look. I am far from being a Bush fan, but this is ridiculous. First of all, this feels like a desperate attempt on Kerry’s part to keep Bush from the presidency. Let’s examine the politics here a bit, too.

If Bush is impeached, that means that Cheney would be president. You know, that guy who is really really right wing? Who is more of a war-hawk? Yeah, that’s the one. Why on earth would Kerry want to put that into power?

Furthermore, this would never get through Congress. Currently, all three branches of the government are controlled by Republicans. A Republican Congress would never vote to impeach their Republican president.

What on earth would be the point of impeaching a lame duck? By the time the hearings are over we will have left office.

You mena like what happened with the Clinton Impeachment? :stuck_out_tongue:

Given that googling “John Kerry Impeach” gets a bunch of right wing Blogs, and no mainstream news, I would presume that John Kerry does not in fact intend to start impeachment proceedings.

al-Jazeera has an anti-Bush spin on the news? I’m shocked!

I wonder if his impeachment would cause the Republicans to rally and win landslides in '06 and '08 or if it would have the opposite effect?

Just the opposite. Republicans would win landslides in '08 and '06.

Looks like - if this is even true - it’ll be dead in the water before it even gets moving.

According to what I’ve heard, if Bush were impeached, Cheney would be, too…he told jsut as many lies, if not more.

Do you really take anything from the likes of Al Jazeera seriously?

If this were true and they were actually serious about impeaching Bush, they need to have somebody other than Kerry spearhead it. The right-wing spin machine will simply convince folks Kerry’s just a sore loser.

What are you talking about? A-J is a mainstream, highly respected news organization. I used to watch it every weeknight when I lived in Qatar. They routinely get booted from Arab nations for criticizing those governments as well. I have never seen the range of political debate and differing opinion on American news broadcasts and talk shows that I have seen on A-J. Americans and Isrealis are interviewed regularly.

Any attempt to label them propagandists only displays the biases in the eye of the beholder.

If indeed Sen. Kerry is behind this, it’s nothing more than a ploy to get his name in the newspaper, as opposed to accomplishing something useful. Then again, compared to the senior senator from Mass, one need not try too hard to appear useful.

Really? Guess I was wrong then…

come on folks! this is a rediculous urban fairy tale. Besides Senator Kerry can call all he wants but the House impeaches a president. The chance that the senator will ever get a say in the matter is exactly zero. That would only happen if the president is impeached and then he would be tried by the Senate. Ain’t going to happen.

Even if Kerry was in the House, the almost certain possibility of it backfiring drastically would make it unthinkable.

The cite/site in the OP is not the Al Jazeera which most probably think it is. From that site’s about page.

What is normally thought of when people say “Al Jazeera” is the Al Jazeera satellite channel based out of Qatar. Their main homepage(arabic) is Al Jazeera.NET. Their English-language section is english.aljazeera.net. I have no idea who the people who run AlJazeera.com are, but they have incredible stories on their front page all the time. Kind of like a tabloid.

Enjoy,
Steven

It wouldn’t backfire because it would never happen, even if Kerry were in the House. This House will never impeach this president. Kerry’s not that stupid.

Oh, snap! I’ve been bamboozled!

Well, at least I know better than to go to them for news anymore. :smack:
