John Vanderslice's "Cellar Door" -- concept album about films?

I’ve been listening to John Vanderslice’s album “Cellar Door” pretty much nonstop today. While listening, I identified “Promising Actress” to be about the film Mulholland Dr. and “When it Hits my Blood” to be about Requiem for a Dream. Then I realized that the title reminds me of Donnie Darko, and my theory was born: all the songs on the album are based off of films.

According to one review, only those two songs are based off of films. However, “Pale Horse” seems to have some pretty strong ties with Battleship Potemkin, especially the “rise like lions after a slumber” part, which matches up with the shots of the stone lions.

I can’t identify anything else, although I attribute this to the fact that I just haven’t seen that many films rather than my theory being just plain wrong. Based off the lyrics can anyone else identify any connections?
