Johnny Cash......

Johnny Cash is so awesome. In fact I am listening to him right now. His music has so much emotion and such a wide range. From “Ghost Riders” to “One Piece at a Time” and so on. He is just the man.

I bet “Ring of Fire” probably is the most redone punk song of all. Pretty much every punk band I have seen plays some version of it.

Cash sure enough came up the hard way, didn’t he? I believe that this is what makes his music so believable and his voice so mesmerizing and listen-able. He’s been there, in other words. And by that I do not mean to detract from other artists who had a poor upbringing, I am just saying that he makes his pain… felt, somehow. I am happy to know that there are so many of you who feel the same way as I do. (And this comes from a guy who used to wear platform heels and lipstick in his drumming glitter- rock days!)

I too still remember the “Jonny Cash” show when we would see his back and then he’d turn around with that guitar and say … “Hello. I’m Johnny Cash.” Then the Tennessee Three would launch into “Folsom Prison”…

I love Johnny Cash!

Sorry, y’all! I know I’m prob’ly overdoing it, but the “God with a hangover” quote reminded me of this song of Johnny’s, written by Kris Kristofferson, but made memorable by JC. I believe that this is also the song that brought Kris to Johnny’s attention, isn’t it?

As the story goes, Kris landed a helicopter on Johnny’s lawn and made him listen to it before he’d leave.

One of the things I find most amazing is that he can take a hokey song and make it this tragic, glorious thing - I mean, anyone else doing The Ballad of Ira Hayes or John Henry’s Hammer just sounds kinda silly…

And he can give a grown man shivers just by introducing himself…

I hate almost all country acts, save one.

God help me, I LOVE Johnny Cash.

Man, all this talk about Johhny Cash and no one mentions his guest appearance on “Columbo!” Did you ever see that? Murdered his wife by asphixiating her in their private plane, then bailed out at low altitude before crashing the plane. His wife and he were a gospel duo, but she wouldn’t let him broaden his musical horizons. The interplay between Cash and Peter Falk was priceless!

My all time favorite Johnny Cash song has to be “The One on the Left is on the Right”.

It makes me laugh every time.
