SPOOFE, that idea gives me a reason to keep living. I love you.
Aw, someone loves me! I feel all warm and squishy now…
I seriously doubt he would do it, but OOOOoooooo…!
Agree, great casting choice.
That’s perfect. He’d be great in the role, and it’s my pet theory that Gambit hasn’t been in the first two because they haven’t found the right actor yet…
IMDB recently announced that Depp is interested in doing a screen biography of Ozzie Osbourne. I’m sure he’d pull it off, but I think the last thing the 21st century needs is more film involving Ozzie Osbourne.
I’d pay to see Depp if he played Barney Fife in “MAYBERRY THE MOTION PICTURE” or a blind lesbian rhinocerous in Disney’s SAFARI RIDE- THE MOVIE. I fell in love with his acting with his slapstick in BENNY & JOON and then again in CRY BABY. Even in horrible schtick like PRIVATE RESORT (his one nude scene to date, incidentally) he managed to shine.
Oooh… Johnny Depp as the title character in Neil Gaiman’s THE SANDMAN. Now THAT would be a blockbuster.
Yes!!! Ohmigod, yes! That would rule!!
I’ve been on a bit of a Johnny Depp kick lately, and watching him go from role to role is just amazing. The mannerisms change, the speaking patterns, everything. A great actor and a damn sexy man. I’m sure he could save many a turkey.
Jack Swann?
Jack Sparrow.
Captain Jack Sparrow.
Sorry to repost, but I when gushed earlier about Mr. Depp’s acting abilities, I forgot to mention how gorgeous he is…maybe because he’s so willing to bury this attribute in his characters.
Anyway, I stumbled across this POTC movie review quote. If you read it. I think you’ll agree that the reviewer makes an excellent point:
" Depp is wonderful here, and Sparrow is the best creation of the movie year. How easy it would have been for an actor with his talent to waltz through this type of big-budget endeavor on cruise control, cash the paycheck and walk away. How much it says about his commitment to his craft that he instead delivers a nuanced, hysterical performance, one that deserves an Academy Award nomination. "
Juniper, you are my hero(ine).
I know … tie her to the keyboard 'til she gets that story done, right?
As for the OP, I see only one problem: We still have yet to figure out what to do about Lopez.
Hey, that would be great! Sadly, due to studio/contract problems it is unlikely that a Sandman movie will ever see the light of day. I used to think that was just as well – I figured they’d probably want to cast Keanu Reeves in the title role and I’d have to give it a miss anyway. But with Johnny Depp, well, that would be something worth seeing.
Speaking of Keanu Reeves, who the hell cast him in Dracula? Now there’s a role that should have gone to Johnny Depp! He and Winona Ryder were still together then, so no problems on that front, and I’m sure Depp’s version of Jonathan Harker wouldn’t have been a block of wood that somehow surfed into Victorian England.
I thought I solved that problem. Christopher Walken, horse, sword, bag of heads. It’s a feel-good ending.
Ah, yes you did, sorry about that. Yay for Christopher Walken!
Are any of you fans looking forward to “Once Upon A Time in Mexico” - to star Antonio Banderas as avenger mariachi & Depp as corrupt CIA agent, out in theatres next month?
I was looking forward to it, until I read a spoiler about what happens to Depp’s character in the end.
Ooh, do share. In spoiler boxes, of course. I’m also really looking forward to “Once Upon A Time in Mexico”, but I have no idea when it’ll be released here in Holland. Guess I’m just going to have to do what I did with PotC – watch it on my computer monitor :D.
I’ve considered myself a fan of Depp’s for years and years and years, at least since “21 Jump Street”. I’m one of the very few beings on this planet who has the first four seasons of Jump Street on tape. And yes, he was very good in that as well.
My favorite Depp flick is (currently) PotC, but I adore “Sleepy Hollow” as well. I saw it five times in theater and it’s one of those movies I watch when I’m in a bad mood.
My DVD collection is actually divided in “movies with Johnny Depp in them” and “movies without Johnny Depp”.
Dear Grimmauld -
I would love to share my spoiler info with you but have no idea how to do spoiler boxes. Have been lurking/posting for months now but still feel a bit new and technology impaired, since I’ve searched and can’t find the answer
Anyway, if anyone can help this old lady across the street with this, thanks.
(Of course, I may be 50 but I’m not dead… some of those photos on the web for Once Upon a Time make Mr. Depp look so good, I may have to violate one of my 2 rules of movie avoidance).
You do the spoiler boxes by typing [ spoiler] , without the space between the [ and the word (if I didn’t omit the space [spoiler]it would assume I was making a spoiler box** and then typing [ /spoiler] (again without the space twixt [ and /) when finished.
Johnny Depp is fantastic.
And the thing is, you already know that he’s one of the few major actors around who is going to get better as he gets older. He’s got the talent, the willingness to reinvent himself, and the brains. I predict superstardom of Tom Hanks proportions.
Actually, there’s a great crop of young actors now, isn’t there? Depp, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton… Even Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have potential to get better as they get older.
Isn’t Depp 40? Not that he might not continue to grow as an actor, but he is certainly older than Ed Norton or Brad Pitt.
