I wonder if it’s plausible that his people told Trump hey, listen, man, the stakes are too high here. Every time you feel yourself getting irate, before you say anything, just take a deep breath, or have a sip of water, OK?
WillFarnaby, I agree that, were Clinton facing a human Republican candidate rather than an orange simian, things like her relatively hawkish inclinations (for a Democrat) would be an important topic.
Well, hopefully next time the Republicans can manage to nominate a human.
Sorry I didn’t read the entire thread - just jumped in around page 13 or so after watching it.
Has anyone mentioned the reason Hillary clearly lost the debate? No flag pin! :smack:
The unfortunate thing is that I suspect the type of discussion we’re doing here will have close to zero effect in the minds of most voters. I don’t know the mindset/demographics of folk who are still undecided at this point, but my fear is that they are not looking for serious analysis. If they are getting their news/opinions from FB/Twitter, all that matters is whether the tweets/messages they get say Trump won and Hillary lied. Facts be damned.
I’m waiting for the tie-in to Trump mocking thirsty Rubio.
I watched it on PBS. Anyone else notice Trump looked less orange than usual? Or was it their cameras.
Perhaps the most offensive line of the night was from the liberal analyst afterwards who said Hillary might be acceptable in your car pool or on the PTA.
Thanks for this (and the parts I snipped) – it’s embarrassingly clear to me how little I know about NATO.
But given that the spending level is a guideline (and I guess even if it was a requirement), in the Trumpverse, shouldn’t not meeting it be considered just good business? Why isn’t he applauding them for being smart, and making a big deal about how stupid we are for meeting the guideline?
Hillary seemed stilted and robotic most of the time. She paused every two or three words to make sure see was going to say exactly what was scripted. She also had to cram on the talking points and buzz words, “trumped up trickle down” and “fair share”. She might have come off badly to those who are currently hating politics-as-usual: the Millennials she is desperately trying to win over.
I wish she had some better comebacks for Trump’s lines. “That’s why you’ve been fighting ISIS your entire adult life.” That’s a softball ready to be whacked. Her response: “Look at my website.”
I hoped for a comeback when Trump said that Obama doubled the national debt. Even though it’s not true about Obama, she could have said the George W Bush doubled the debt and Reagan tripled it and mention the ridiculous deficit that Obama was left with at the beginning of his term.
I’m not sure if the debates are going to change anyone’s mind.
Ooooo–good one!
CNN just showed a clip of Trump on Fox(phone in). He wasn’t sniffing, it was a bad microphone.
Yeah, right.
I think Anderson Cooper said that to one of Trumps campaign managers a few weeks ago. The response was “He can’t because they’re all connected!”
Wouldn’t it be nice for the IRS to close the books on Trump’s audits and tweet to Trump that he’s now free to release his returns.
Something i forgot to mention in my last post:
Notice when the question came up about race relations in America, all Trump could talk about was crime. black people = criminals
Yeah, if the IRS was truly in Obama’s pocket, that is exactly what he would order them to do. Any taxes due missed due to shutting down the audit early would definitely be worth it.
Here’s CNN’s first debate fact-checking: http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/26/politics/fact-check-presidential-debate/index.html
LOL. Not much needs to be added to that.
Holt or Clinton had a perfect trap opportunity and let him go.
Trump: I’ll release my taxes when Clinton releases her deleted emails.
Holt: So just to be clear…if Clinton released her emails tomorrow, you would release your taxes?
Trump: Yes.
Holt: Despite the fact that you’re being audited?
Boom.
I know nothing about US tax law, but I have to ask - can the IRS be compelled (via court order) to publicize Trump’s tax returns itself?
There’s a lawsuit that has been filed to do so, but there’s zero chance of the suit succeeding. Privacy laws on tax returns are very strict.
This would be on the level of his “Obama is an American” announcement. He schedules a major event, gets the breathless attention of the media, builds the suspense for an hour, and then: Bill Clinton had affairs in the 1990’s. Gasp.
He didn’t even skim ‘Cliff Clavin’ Notes… not that I’d want him to. Trump was shown up as the Lying Bloviating Buffoon we all knew him to be. Courtesy: Rope.
As for problems with the truth, I’m not worried about Hillary because Trump Can’t Tell The Truth. Sometimes I worry Bill Maher is right though:
Unless “Ignorant Sack Of Shit” is the “New GOP”(meaning Kellyanne Conway is the exception, not the rule), Hillary should be leading him by 50 points already… Especially after leveling him building-to-parking-lot style last night.
Well, Trump typically goes back to the same well over and over and over for attack lines, so there’s a good chance he’ll repeat these whoppers in Debate #2 (and possibly #3), and if he does, I suspect Hillary will be ready for them.
And has anyone been able to figure out what Trump was talking about with his line "Last week at the AF of L-CIO, behind the blue screen, you were totally out of control! I said, ‘There’s a person with a temperament that’s got a problem.’ "
I think Hillary did a good job, but “Trumped up trickle down” is just blech, reeking of zinger by market research. I hope that phrase disappears quickly.
